to a large degree, yes. Do we have the talent to be a top 10 defensive team? I think that's been the struggle and that's why we need a defensive coach.

I think we have the raw talent to be a top 5 offensive team. which is again why a defensive head coach would make more sense but here we are. Silas is a decent hire, but we will need a defensive AHC and there are not many, nor do they seem to be on Stone's radar.

Cassell has joined Philly, unfortunately. JH was a flopper. What else can he teach anyone?

... all of this in the context of inheriting the league MVP and generational offensive talent in his prime and stepping into a situation with a 65 win team.

I hope for the best with Silas, but it's not looking so great, and it has nothing to do with him.

Ugh, I hate defending the Fertitta family here, but unfortunately I am forced to.

It's Silas's first head coaching gig. It is reasonable that they wanted to bring in coaches with previous head coaching experience to help ease him into this position. After all, this is still a playoff contending team, with the possibility of contending for a championship if a couple of moves are made. I'm not saying that Jeff and Nate were great coaches, but they certainly were not terrible coaches (I don't hold Hornacek accountable for the mess in NY).

Ultimately, yes, Tilman is likely being cheap by giving a chance to Silas, but on the other end, Silas does have a good reputation in this league and there is promise that this guy can be a great head coach.

I think we can all be cautiously optimistic.

Granted, the current talent on the roster has been maximized and we obviously need at least one big man that can actually give us a decent chance of not getting annihilated on the boards. We also can't rely on PJ to carry such a heavy load this season either, he is going to be 36 after all. I don't trust that Fertitta is going to make the right moves, in fact, I am pessimistic in that regard, however, we still have James on this team. We will still be competitive and maybe, just maybe, Russ will be a lot more useful in the playoffs this next go around.

Sam Cassell is very close to Doc Rivers and is comfortable working with him. He let Sam call plays when no one else would. Sam was never going to come to the Rockets over the chance to be with Doc.

Part of the problem is which players? Battier has turned down the Rockets numerous times. Most of the guys like Mario Elie have views and philosophies that are out dated. I believe that Chuck Hayes is with the organization. Mobley hasn't wanted to make a commitment. Steve Francis cannot teach when he cannot keep his own life straight....... Charles Barkley is a disaster.

Hell, the Rockets cannot even throw a bone at Rafer Alston because he has a really bad history.

    Including Vogel.

Give me Obradovic over McMillan any day of the week and twice on game day.

Zeljko Obradovic and Will Voight on Silas staff would put me over the moon.

If the Rockets make Battier the President of Basketball Ops would it not make us all feel better? I'd prefer Battier over Morey in that spot to be honest.

Maybe Harden can teach Rafer how to shoot the teardrop.
