Silas is very close to Clifford, Magic HC.

Magic are loaded with young players while Rockets loaded with vets.

Magic-Rockets trade finally has a chance of happening?

I'd rather have Darren Erman (Celts) and Chris Quinn (Heat) over retreads like McMillan and Hornacek.

Or better yet, let Silas hire his own staff.

He is extremely smart. Like right now he is probably in the top 20% of coaches or better when it comes to intelligence.

He is liked by players and is excellent at communicating and he stays positive like Vogel does. He is someone that is going to approach things from a positive perspective.

You're overestimating the impact of the statistician. Tilman doesn't understand basketball and Les/ MDA had their limits, but Morey thinks about basketball as a cookbook formula. Analytics has it's importance, but it has it's limits.
We have to see if the new GM can do anything better.

I called it when I heard Morey left for Philly. With Morey gone, JVG withdrew his name.

    (no source except common sense)

Good hire for a team that is likely to soon be in a soft rebuild.

I am afraid he will be hamstrung by bad management/ownership

The Lakers took Moreys philosophy and shot more threes than Rockets did and won the championship. The numbers work.

So would I..... I would rather have Finch or Erman or Quinn or a number of other assistants...... but that isn't happening. It is better than what them running it back with Turner and a bunch of marginal coaches.

I still do not see how McMillan fits defensively. He is a hardass and is tough, which is good for the Rockets.... but the Rockets personnel doesn't fit what he likes to do defensively..... I would prefer Unseld Jr. running the defense as Associate Head Coach.

    Stone is analytics guy too.

Just not as experienced on basketball Operations side as Morey was.

Remember, Stone was one of Morey's soldiers. Morey had a lot of soldiers.

I agree. McMillan and Hornacek will be overbearing.

His defense hasn't been great every year... but in general his defenses are very physical and good... but he isn't reading analytical reports or agreeing to switch all the time. He is really big on man defense.

It's too bad that analytics took over basic basketball fundamentals. 3/D and small ball was never going to be enough.

Just worried they are not loyal to Silas and will not be committed to his vision.

Mavs were a well oiled machine on offense.

And Rockets switch everything defense was top 5 in the postseason.

That's a better D than McMillan had in IND.

How so? It should be obvious to even the most dense Rocketsfan that Morey and MDA jumped ship when they saw no way out of the mess they'd created here. To me, Morey was all about himself being the "Smartest Guy In The Room" and nothing else. That's why I saw his "stepping away from the game" excuse as nothing more than BS. Both he and MDA ran a game on Philly and Morey just so happened to win.
