Harden on the downside of his career? If you had to pick the top 5 players in the NBA, it would certainly include Harden, along with Steph, Lebron, Durant, and Kawhi. Of those guys, all of them are older than Harden except for Kawhi. I think he's in the last few years of his prime, but he's very durable and his skill set is going to age well. He's not a diminished skills guy like Chris Paul, Carmelo, etc. He might get there in a few years, or he might be amazing into his mid-30s. You make it sound like he's washed and it couldn't be further from the truth.

I think the only reason they don't blow it up is because there is only about a month and a half until the next season start. The Rockets will do whatever is best for the Rockets despite what they say in the media. They said they weren't going to trade Chris Paul but when an opportunity arrived, they did it. I don't believe a damn thing said by Tilman or the Rockets organization.

Harden, on his downside, was absolutely sublime in this year's playoffs. On both ends. Black Jesus.

Ownership and management and some really damn bad luck knocked him off.

Tilman will ride Harden out as long as we finish high enough for him to be happy with the profits.

He isn’t willing to spend enough to have one of the most talented rosters in the league.

He isn’t willing to tank or spend a lot because he knows he makes plenty as long as we finish in the top 10 or so in the league.

The dude will have pissed away most of Hardens prime and as someone else said, it may be another 20 years before we acquire a player of that caliber. Those are the odds and with an owner whose reputation is probably worse among players than fans, we are unlikely to land big FA’s.

If there's a major trade or decision it will probably be seen by draft time

This seems to be the case unfortunately.
