I'd have to admit I didn't follow the situation in the US the moment the Rockets dropped out of the Playoffs.

The mortality has gone down.

Every federal state is still taking measures in their own hands amirite?

Did the overall situation take a turn for the better would you say since summer?

Europe is on par with similar numbers.

 

Eh, maybe some of this discussion of the US federal response would best head to the D&D forum. But yeah, it's fair to say states have different approaches and can focus somewhat independently. My understanding is you have worst cases like Wisconsin where they've had to set up at least one temporary hospital to deal with all the illness there, whether or not the virus is milder. The upper Midwest is getting hit pretty hard right now, while the northwest and far northeast seem to have things more under control.

It even varies county to county. Where we live, in San Francisco, we have so much mask-wearing and such low case count now that we're able to open up more and more businesses, on a trial basis at least. But counties even just an hour away are having uncontrolled transmission (and less mask wearing).

No matter the politics, it's a shame that mask-wearing and distancing became tribal issues in the US, but there it is.

With some measures it seems more feasible to control the spread without having to resort to total lockdown.

The number of hospitalisations, ICUs and deaths in Czechia are horrible.

Deaths are the equivalent if the USA had 3000 deaths a day.

 

Hmmm, Belgium got higher infection rate and 11k deaths.

This is going to be a bad winter for sure.

I think there is also 2x or 3x more testing done than half a year ago.

 

yeah Belgium has been the second worst country in the world behind Peru but

in this second wave so far they are doing better than Czechia.

OR they could be 1-1,5 weeks behind.

Even their ex prime minister is in ICU and they have night curfews and bars closed.

Poland got a worse mortality rate than Czechia and relatively scarce testing and due to the big population in Euro terms.

So things could get substantially worse.

 

Poland is having huge demonstrations because of a newly appointed rushed in right wing Supreme Court banning abortions ( sounds familiar? )
so whatever happens is going to get worse.
A LOT WORSE.
They might even use Covid19 as an excuse for extreme suppressions of the polish people while infections and deaths are really balooning.


If I were Polish I would also be on the streets.

I'll keep posting this as I have for months. The Death rates are going down. New cases mean nothing.

What number on that site are you looking at on that site to say that the death rates are going down? The covid19 deaths column? Are you accounting for the fact that the provisional counts for covid19 deaths takes weeks for the death certificate to be processed and presented on the chart? It says on the site "This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction and cause of death.".

The site says on average that NCHS often track 1-2 weeks behind other data.

So looking at deaths that's less than a few weeks ago is always going to show a decreasing trend due to the reporting delay.

 

I've watched this site for months. It takes roughly 3-4 weeks to get the accurate count. If you knew how to follow charts like these you would understand that.
