Were in for a long time of hurt. Tillman's ego will drive this organization into the Charlotte Bobcats,NY Knicks type of team. Were about to hire a coach without gm. Unreal!!
Also 2nd most easily manipulated fanbase... We can have 25 years of trash and only now start to think the sky is falling.
True, however, none of them had a brick of solid gold and through reverse alchemy turned it into a steaming POS. Only TF.
We made WCF in 2018....don't let your hate for Morey cloud reality. You got what you wanted, you will see trash for sure. Then be begging for the last 25 year type relevance. When stuff get's really bad. The last 25 years have been nothing.
It's one thing to have a set of guidelines to run a franchise. It's another if it's not executed right, just like if the players don't execute right on the floor, things go bad quick. The only thing is front office decisions could have greater impact than simply a player not executing. Bad office decisions last years, not spurts, quarters or half's. Simply sliding players in like Tilman wanted with Westbrook as a patch/upgrade job is a bad sign. That was a emotional irrational gamble that didn't cost Tilman money but cost Rockets being competitive now and it looks like Harden's prime. With Morey we were never in danger of being Lakers before Lebron bad. We had the 2nb best winning record behind Spurs during Morey's tenure. We were always competitive and will still be but to a way lesser degree. With Harden and Tilman heads so far up each others asses there no end to how bad this can get. This is the worse case scenario. Nothing but a free fall from here. We needed Morey to trade Harden before he lever left. That is likely not happening not only that Westbrook isn't going anywhere. They will probably stay Rockets as Tilman continues to think fans will accept this nonsense of a glorified Francis and Mobley 2020 Era! We've been here before already. I don't care about Westbrook's explosiveness or heart, I care about winning.
May be an unpopular opinion but maybe its time to do the smart thing and start over from scratch. Trade high on Westbrook and Harden when you can and acquire assets for the future. Both guys have heavy mileage on them and will be 31 and 32 next year and are owed incredible amount of money for 2 years after next year Lakers, Clippers, Warriors, Nuggets, Jazz, Mavs have more stability going for them in a competitive Western conference. The sooner the Rockets press the restart button the better. They been in the playoffs the last 6-7 years with Harden as the cornerstone and have nothing to show for it. Learn from it, cut your losses and move on. Its time to get away from the Morey style of making moves to simply stay afloat and mediocre. Best place to start is Square 1. PS During the transition period the Rockets can bring a player development coach in the meantime to be the captain of the ship for 1 to 3 years and not have to overpay for 5 year deals (like Doc and Lue got)
In 2006, we were headed for a title when Yao went down against LA. We fought for years against one of the greatest dynasties ....to where the NBA had to steal at least one title. Look the Rockets were the only team besides the Lakers to get out of the West in the eighties..twice. Only to face the Celtics both times. Does that mean those seasons were failures? Wasn't the emotional investment worth the ride and the memories? The seasons as a fan watching these teams were the best. I would never take anything away from those times. Au contraire, I cherish them. Spoiled...spoiled...spoiled... Is it convenient to forget all that or am I reminding you?
You realize we are in the longest draught in this teams history when it comes to making the finals... This franchise went from an expansion team and got to the finals twice in the amount of time Morey has had to turn this into at least a western conference champion. It was time to move on for both sides. Moreys greatest accomplishment is James Harden and for that i am thankful but he consistently built teams that got bounced in round 2.
