Biden is on record in the past not supporting court packing but hasn't been clear lately. I believe biden will win the election next month so this could become reality soon.
I am not in favor of adding 2 more justices. I am in favor of adding 12 more justices. No justices, no peace.
Nope. Don't add justices. It will just keep going. Unless the Republicans change their current tactics they will be the first to do it as soon as they get a chance if the Democrats don't. After that each party will do it.
The SC nomination and confirmation process is too extreme and partisan. It needs reform. Term limits and yes, more justices. 15 or whatever. I don’t care as long as it is reformed to be a much less non partisan process. I’m not for packing without reform.
Depends on what happens with RBG’s vacancy, a 2 to 1 republican ratio has disastrous potential. With the way Garland was blocked, if Barrett gets pushed through, then tradition and decorum goes out the window, go ahead pack the courts. If the seat is left vacant, and Trump wins and fills it, then fair. If it’s left vacant, Biden wins and fills it, then fair.
Pack the courts. More justices deciding issues may result in better decided opinions. While you are at it, get rid of the electoral college. It's an antiquated system, not reflective of the will of the people.
Why not just require a higher threshold of congressional votes for nominee to be confirmed? Each side taking sides appointing partisan judges is not how it’s supposed to work.
Term limits should be instituted for every Supreme Court Justice, and the same should be done for Senators and members of the House of Representatives. Justices shouldn’t get to serve for their entire lifetime, and nobody should have the opportunity to spend 35 years in the Senate like Mitch McConnell has.
I'm in favor of them not approving a Justice a month before an election. I don't think I want to expand the court just to expand, but if we're hurrying to pack a Republican in there, election results be damned, I'd live with the Dems adding seats. I'd also be open to term limits.
Simple solution. Increase the courts to 15. Every year on Feb 1st, a president can nominate a new SCJ. Once appointed, the oldest SCJ has to retire. When there is a case, each side gets to pick minimum of 3 justices to exclude for each case. Each justice takes turns to be mandatory on a case so there is not an even ruling. This way the extremists get eliminated from cases.
My interpretation is Biden is getting tired of answering that question as its alienating him further from his base. This is a tactic Trump used in the debates... alienate moderate Biden from the extreme leftist.
How does that fix the current issue of hyper partisan Court? Kavanagh and Barret should never be on a supreme court.
If that works to make it less partisan, sure. But I doubt that’s enough. Each party will deny any nomination to be confirmed until they have enough votes on their own. Remember the GOP suggested they would unpack and leave the court at 8 and never allow a confirmation if Clinton won.
Not only yes but hell yes. It’s time for Republicans to experience might makes right on the other foot. Add six of the youngest, most liberal justices you can find and then try to make it illegal to add any more. Then run up a bunch of cases to overturn Citizens United. Time for the pendulum to to swing back, a lot. Also, make it a law that the President will have a vote on any new justice when an opening comes about. No more stealing justices Mitch McConnell bull****.
