Might should have included 'Eddie' in the thread title? This is shocking. I'm at a loss for words. Probably the best guitarist that ever lived (or, up there). I'm glad I saw VH at least three times in concert...once for "1984" tour (attended second of three shows sold out at The Summit), once with Sammy Hagar (Rice Stadium - Monsters of Rock I think), and the last tour (American Airlines Center - I think it was the last tour). I do admit learning some VH songs on guitar. And, of course, I took several stabs at "Eruption" never coming close to actually playing it well at all. And, EVH is mostly responsible for my synthesizer phase when I was taking piano lessons at Baybrook Mall. I used to play "Dreams" and "Jump". I honestly didn't have much faith in what David Lee Roth was saying as far as Eddie's condition several months back regarding why they weren't doing another tour. But, it turns out he was right. RIP
unchained was one of the first songs I learned. wasn't big on the tapping but everybody growing up wanted to be him. He's top 5 with Randy Rhoads, SRV, Hendrix, Clapton
RIP Saw Van Halen open for Sabbath in the coliseum back in '78. Only time I saw them live and they rocked.
Was literally just playing somebody get me a doctor when I pulled this up. ****. Had no idea he was in bad shape. What a legend. We’ve lost quite a few Rock icons over the last few years but this one is at the top for me.
Two of the top at their instrument lost in 2020...Neil Peart...and now Eddie Van Halen. I think they are looking for a bass player up there.
This is devastating, man. First Neil now Eddie. People who meant so much to me (and countless others) musically are dying this year.
Man, I sure hope that he and Sammy Hagar made up before the end. It would suck for Sammy to have to continue to carry that around after trying several times to make up with Eddie. Somehow, I don't think it happened...especially given the pandemic situation.
****. Your music -- that sound -- meant so much to me growing up. I just can't believe this. Thanks Eddie. My sympathies to Wolf, Janie, and Alex.
