Iso's not going to be effective vs. every team. More PnR, DHO, split cuts, back cuts, pin downs, etc. But personnel matters so Rockets need to add more playmakers, cutters and better shooters in addition to height. An athletic long 5 that can pass, defend, finish and space floor is critical for Rockets to take next step. https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article238517208.html Have to diversify with more motion especially OFF BALL. Stationary 5 Out spacing is less effective in postseason. Spo went to study with Jim Crutchfield to add more motion to Heat offense before this season. Rockets should bring in Crutchfield to supplement their 5 Out too. https://www.fivereasonssports.com/voices/how-erik-spoelstra-transformed-the-heats-offense/
it's hard to do this when we don't draft promising players and have all our salary locked up in Harden, Westbrook and EG. but otherwise, I'm sure many agree with you.
Motion with Harden's playmaking ability would have made it very hard for lakers or any elite team to constantly double. Look at what Butler did in games 2&3 in the finals.
That is why we need a coach that can hopefully get us to use more than just an ISO offense. But I am not sure how much the superstars on the team will buy in.
This is a good post on its face value. Given this sentence though, I can't tell if it's an expert-level troll of people that are always saying Rockets should do this or that, even though they obviously lack the personnel.
Spo did not implement this motion until this past off season. Are you saying Spo not real coach? In fact Heat offense has been bottom of the NBA since Lebron left.
The important thing about this video is the support personnel. We don't have Miami's support personnel so we'd need someone that can creatively come in and design offense specifically for our team. The ball-handler is dangerous from the outside in most of those situations from Miami and GS. I think it was clear that Westbrook would need to play that role but he's not dangerous from deep. Thus, those plays have a lot of potential to break down. To me we need offenses that start with putting Westbrook in dangerous locations to score.. ie.. not at the 3 point line. Westbrook is dangerous in the post, a few feet inside the 3 point line or closer. Give me a coach that runs plays to get him there. Give me a coach that makes Harden play off-ball when Westbrook/Harden play together. And now I've posted 20K times on Clutchfans. Yay.
To attract talent we need money something the owner of our beloved Rockets has proven to not spend. He wants to change the culture, he wants guys that are fighters well no one is doing that for free!
Not sure if we need to run the same offense but yes more movement and screens. Echoing the ire of rocket fans everywhere I am disgusted with the lack of off ball movement and offball screens of the rockets. They did implement some more screens in the post season but not enough. Simple flares like what golden state runs with their backcourt should be implemented. More offball screens with harden playing off the ball as seen in his OKC days. But most of all they need to run a simple zone buster play. They never play the short corners and they always seem to not like to pass to the middle when harden is trapped. So many changes to the offense needed for this upcoming season. It's going to be very exciting to see what will be implemented with the next coach!
They do get him the ball at the elbows. They get him the ball at the post or let him dribble drive and pop that FT mid range shot. They also always run the top of key action with harden passing out to a hard attack to the basketball from the wing. The issue is PJ ticker not talented on offense enough to break down the defense when they are occupied with harden and westbrook. Opportunity cost. playing a guy who can't score except for corner 3s for great defensive effort. They need a stretch 4 that can dribble drive and shoot.
It's not the zones that are killing Rockets offense, it's the traps and doubles on Harden because rest of the team just can not take advantage of 3 vs. 4.
Different personnel. They run that offense with the personnel they have. They do not have 2 stud combo guards. Neither Herro Butler nor Dragic are the level of our players. Their roster needs this utilitarian approach. We have dominant players that we can build around. Just need more movement, screens, and zone busting plays.
Lakers played a zone against the rockets trapping him in a 1-2-2 type zone. That killed us all series long. PJ gives you nothing but corner 3's and westbrook cannot shoot. These are the limitations of this team. This is why the lakers were successful. We never played proper zone busting offense and our personnel was limited. I love PJ but he is not a starter. They need a stretch 4 and a true 5.
You can bust a zone by hitting your 3's. But again, it wasn't the zone that killed the Rockets. Role players just could not hit their shots. In any event, my dark horse candidate for Rockets HC is Euroleague legend: Zeljko Obradovic
