Of course all those coach departures were bad. The only time a coach ever leaves a team and the departure isn't bad is if he/she retires. That's true for every franchise in every sport.

Melo’s advanced numbers were worse on the Blazers than they were when he was on the Thunder.

Did people forget the Blazers finished UNDER .500? Melo was a part of that. He would have a good game once every blue moon and NBA media would over hype it like “Look! Melo can still play!!!!” and forget the 5-6 stretch afterwards where he would be ass. The Blazers needed an outrageous stretch from Lillard to just sneak in the playoffs. At this point people are just seeing what they want to see from Melo.

TBH Jeff Green is what we wanted from Melo at lower price.

No its not. Every coach took shots at Morey and the organization after leaving. The organization as a whole has a negative perception around the league, and I'm assuming its worse after CP3 and now the MDA debacle. When a coach of 4 years quits before boarding a team plane its BAD. But you're just deflecting course

Only the MDA exit was problematic, and that's 100% on Fertitta. Bickerstaff inherited a bad situation but did nothing to improve it. McHale, Adelman and JVG all had their moments, but none of them even got us to a conference final, so they were rightly fired (or not extended) in every case. And when someone is let go, they are never happy.

As for CP3, it's not like he was innocent, either. His squabble with Harden and MDA about playing style, whether justified or not, was his undoing. You can't rock the boat and then protest when they decide to throw you overboard.

The only thing Rockets did wrong regarding Melo was going after him and then actually signing him.

    He is trash.

If any player is sick of getting trashed by fans/media, they should sign with us with the intention of leaving ASAP. Guaranteed to reinvent your image and become liked again once they leave. Worked for Melo, worked for CP, even Dwight to a certain extent.

I can't feel bad for him. The moment he felt disrespected by people questioning his declining abilities is already too late to realize he's not a marquee player anymore.

He took the money in NY, basically did nothing while tearing the team apart from the inside.

After all this time, he still hasn't matured. I'm not even saying as a player he sucks, but personality is a huge deal when it comes to being a team captain and leader. From an emotional quality standpoint he's still a damn baby.

Yeah. Remember he was Player of the Week at one point? That was the most ridiculous thing in the history of Player of the Week.

The whole "Melo proved the doubters wrong" narrative (which almost always takes pot shots at Morey/the Rockets) is false. I think, honestly, 90-some percent of player personnel would have answered yes to the question of: if you give Melo over 30 mins a night and let him average 14+ attempts a night, can he still manage to put up a respectable 15/game ppg?

But that was never the question. The questions most people had on Melo were:

    1) Could he work as part of a fast-paced offense that didn't rely on him taking up lots of time in the shot clock to maneuver and score points
    2) Could he come off the bench as a 10-20 minute per night guy who gets 6-8 attempts and still be productive
    3) Can he adjust to playing a 'stretch-4' role as opposed to his traditional '3' position

His time in Portland has not answered a single one of those questions, and has actually suggested that all of them are "no." The fact that Portland didn't automatically extend him after his impressive play (in moments) speaks volumes about what the front office has seen, and where they see him fitting in/not fitting in to the future of the club. The biggest things he has going for him in Portland is that the city embraced him, Lillard seems to like him a lot, and he hit clutch shots in some big games this past season. Beyond that, there are open questions as to how he might adjust if re-signed but given a meager 10-15 minutes a game next season, as well as how productive he'll be in that limited time (he basically said in the interview that he's a rhythm guy, needs touches to get going, etc. which is the polar opposite of what a bench player has to be capable of doing).

Dude, Rockets, publicly and privately, have always been adamant that Jeff Bzdelik's retirement was not related to his history with Melo.

Some of y'all are just being straight up dicks. Melo admitted that he didn't fit here. He struggled with being a spot up shooter. And he was respectful of our team and us fans.

Considering we signed him for 2.4 million, he shouldn't have been expected to be a team captain or leader. We treated him like a scrub from the onset, never giving him much of a chance. Baby or not, he would have helped us at times. At least he didn't squander screw his team over by being a selfish immature jerk in the playoffs like House.

You can choose to believe whatever you want to believe.

Forgive me for not being swayed by the ever predictable and obvious public denial.

It's a bit mind-blowing that there's still Melo fans like you who protect him.

He was a superstar when he cashed out to join NYK. He got his money, but basically did nothing with that team after yelling kicking and screaming that he wants more.

Then he was worth considerably less because he did nothing with NYK. He felt like he can still be that level but the whole world moved on. Are you kidding me after what you did in NYK you think you can lead?

He started a feud with Phil Jackson, who is hands down one of the greatest coaches of all time today, because of his ego.

He has to be humble today, you really can't be going on talk shows and making it seem like he's still a badass. Not after all the screwups you've had.

OKC, HOU, POR are all recent history that's a testament to his shitty emotional qualities as a leader.

I wasn't ever a fan of his. I'm just saying, we signed him for league minimum, and even he didn't pull the selfish crap House did.

Fair enough, but when he asks for touches to get in rhythm, this is something you can't ask for. Nobody else would, at least not the way Melo asks.

He's still over here years after throwing his previous team under the bus.

Are you seriously comparing Carmelo Anthony's selfishness and Danuel House's selfishness? Totally different breeds.

How did he hurt our team being selfish? I mean, why did we even sign him for the minimum? He barely even played before they benched him.
