That's interesting can you provide more info? I've known a few people how have caught it and I haven't heard of that treatment but none of them are the President.
The thing about yes men is their true loyalties lie to power, not individuals. They will fall in line knowing that if they don't, they are replaceable. It would be extremely difficult for the states to bypass their own popular votes for the reasons I stated above. This could only happen for states with a Republican governor AND state legislature. Keep in mind also that it's very late in the game and even changing the state law in time to bypass the popular vote in the state is not an easy thing to do.

if this is true, (and god only knows with this WH), about 5 - 7 days from now will be key. He’ll be easily on the mend or starting the bad part. I hope it’s the former. I really want him to face the American voters response to his tenure.

Not unless they are interested in asserting their own power. This wouldn't be a situation where they become president but where different groups jockey for power. According to Woodward's books this was something that happened quite a bit in the early days of Trump's administration as different clicques such as Kushner's and Tillerson's didn't work together and undermined each other. I agree it would be difficult and am not saying any of this is a certainty just speculating on possible things that could happen.
