To untilt the tilted playing field by all legal means and not to be cowed by appeals to to tradition that have a very dubious logical and historical provenance or speculative warnings about dire consequences or laughable appeals to dubious norms that favor status quo

I mean, the governor of Texas basically telling Houstonians they have less of a right to vote than other Texans is as ****ing civically dire as it gets.

A critical first step is to accept the idea that the current system is structured - at all levels - in favor of an antidemocratic minority. Remedying this is not antidemocratic or escalation, it is the opposite

If we remedy this at the national level it becomes much easier to do it at local levels.

If ever there was a time to show up at the state legislature armed to the teeth like what happened in Michigan, this would be it.

The Texas Supreme Court is packed with partisan Republican judges. They have proven over and over again that they will do nothing to prevent any dirty act by the Texas Republican Party, Abbott, Paxton and down the line. The Texas Democratic Party, and others, should immediately go to federal court for an emergency injunction to prevent this. Raise hell.

    They're more devoted and fanatic.

Ofc if libs do it, it's "unAmerican" or "byproduct of the deep state".

    Education is gud.

Mebe private schooling isn't a classist thing, but more a survival thing...

I certainly agree that the GOP has done many things to cement their majority. I condemn them for it but no matter what you are I say here on Clutchfans D&D it's already happened and I fear that there will be a backlash.

As some of our recent debates show comity has been lost in our government and really throughout the country. I hope that Biden as an institutionalist can restore some of it but I doubt he or any single politician can.

I don't really agree I don't think most Democrats have that kind of energy and I know the leadership does not.

Not even Bernie talks about that at least I think?

I agree with you this is undemocratic and even stated that those things should be deconstructed. I will state again though until the Republicans are defeated that's not going to happen.

You can take shots at me if it makes you feel better but when I talk about the vote that's not opinion. That is fact. Republicans the last few decades have been winning elections at all levels which is why we got here. The only way we are going to get out is win.

I'm not clear on what you're saying. When you talk about what you don't agree with are you disagreeing with that if the Democrats win they will make radical changes that will benefit Democrats in future elections?

So making it easier to vote is benefiting Democrats? Voting is a cornerstone of democracy . It benefits all. Only republicans would think otherwise

Politics needs to be taken out of appointing judges, managing elections, and drawing districts.

A non-partisan commission or the effort should be bi-partisan.

Yeah I sometime out nuance myself so what I'm saying doesn't come off as clear as it should..

I get what you're saying and you might be right. If Democrats win the Senate it will be by a very narrow majority and it might be difficult to hold that majority on major changes such as adding seats to the court. That said I think the anger over things like this and the rush to fill Ginsburg's seat might push things.

No. I'm talking about things like redistricting to radically favor Democrats.

God Bless Texans. We need it with this GOP power hungry, greed driven bunch of Trump's toy soldiers running this state. They don't give a damn about stopping the spread of Coronavirus, don't give a damn about all the Texans still dying, and sure as hell don't give a damn if people wanted a Covid excuse to vote by mail. Now, they take away straight ticket voting and narrow down the box to drop off to one box!!!

How convenient in a county so large! Abbott just earned a Trump patch for his brown shirt, just like Paxton did this week.

I like this response. So true!!

I bet that county in New Jersey has 1/3 the population of Harris county and 1/4 the square miles.
