Irrelevant really when you think about it. (Although they are, being tolerant to white supremacy is white supremacy.) The president was asked to denounce white supremacy and he didn't. Period. The end.
Why not? Tolerating white supremacy is white supremacy. I can be no ally to a man that accepts my subjugation and dehumnization. F that. It's basically saying "Yeah, I'm cool with your discrimination and your dehumanization, that's fine here, but I'm not a racist!" in rare cases could I accept this. If this person is tolerating their mother or father or grandfather or son or brother...
What does "tolerating white supremacy" mean? If I "tolerate" a legally sanctioned demonstration by a group of white supremacists, am I a white supremacist? If tolerating white supremacy is white supremacy, does it not logically follow that tolerating another person's "toleration" of white supremacy is also white supremacy, and so on? That seems to be a problematic stance, to me.
Agreed. If you tolerate something you're fine with it. Tolerating white supremacy means exactly that, you're fine with a system of white supremacy. It has nothing to do with ignoring a KKK rally and everything to do with thinking that discrimination and a system that is unfair to others because they are not white is fine and cool and nothing needs to change. That's tolerating it.
One might argue that a system which permits a KKK rally to take place is systemically unjust to non-white people and a form of white supremacy. I guess you don't hold that view, but I'm sure many do and from their perspective, applying your definition, a person who defends the rights of people to hold such a rally would themselves be a white supremacist, as would any person who tolerates such a defense, etc. Pretty quickly, due to the recursion, virtually everyone is a white supremacist.
No, because the KKK rally is just a bunch of racists holding a rally and expressing their free speech. Now, allowing the KKK to burn the town down and having the state defend them is. Then having people tolerate that is. Yes, those people are, as many people were during civil rights and reconstruction and slavery. They would say things were fine when they clearly were not and that nothing major needed to change, they were tolerating white supremacy which either made them completely ignorant or just putting on a 'decent' face and hiding their power level. So we have people today that tolerate police brutality, they bring up crime stats or this or that to excuse their tolerance. MLK had a pretty good letter about this very subject, that people that stand by and accept racism are virtually lower than racists themselves because they allow the racists people to exist in the first place. this is why people are calling Trump racist, because he's fine with the Proud Boys doing what they do. He's enabling them and giving them power. Tolerating racism allows it to exist, to tolerate it means to accept it. If your mother is racist and you try and get her to change her behavior, you're not tolerating it, because you're not content with it and you're trying to change it, tolerating it means you think its fine as it is.
Lol at white supremacists denouncing white supremacy. @basso "Western chauvinism" is a form of white supremacy. Changing words around to make racism more PC isn't going to cut it.
Is Proud Boys connected with the LGBTQ community at all? Or, is there some other history behind the name? The name sounds really gay to me.
When a white supremacist group denounces white supremacy before the President, then you know that **** is messed up.
weirdo alert. there is no such thing. but if someone commits violence and does it in name of of antifa I denounce it and think they are almost as trash as you
