Im not sure why anyone is seriously discussing the comparison between LeBron James and Morey as GM. This is like the Top 5 high school players getting together to form a team to play against a Jr High School league. LeBron as an athlete is amazing. LeBron as a competitor is purely pathetic.
He sure can decide and live better than some of his handlers, no doubt about it. Some uncanny LeComissioner behavior through out Rockets vs Lakers series: "You can't do that!" "No I didn't!" He seemed open concerning his ultimate authority.
And that probably hasn't changed. Of course, if we're sticking with the thread topic about fictional jobs, Lebron the GM is definitely better than Harden the GM. Harden doesn't strike me as a good capologist.
I took the thread as tongue in cheek. Lebron also rubbed Rondo to bring back 2008 Rondo with that Eddie Johnson three point stroke. Can former FAT Elvis do that?
People forget that LA is also a prime destination to live at for rich celebrities and H-Town is most assuredly not that type of city.
A lot of it is Lebron is the goat himself. He is able to maximize the talent around him. He studies the game harder than anyone, he has to will to win greater than anyone. Lebron is special. If u took away Lebron from the Lakers and put in Harden and I love harden. A lot of those pieces wouldn’t fit. We’d be saying why are we isoing AD and Harden all game? Why aren’t we getting Dwight involved. We’d limit players to just catch and shooting. Lebron studies the game so much that he knows every players tendencies on his team and the opponent. He went to the finals 10x for a reason that isn’t some accident
Math/Assets approach VS Baseketball/People approach Morey would win if the game is played by a bunch of robots. People are not just assets with a series of numbers.
just a year ago, CF was calling Bron a loser who only wanted to be in movies, and a horrible GM now he’s about to be a champion again and is a better GM than Morey Remember all those threads where people were acting like they didn’t even want Lebron here? Reeko does...
Being "a competitor" is extremely overrated. There are players that are as athletic as Lebron but just aren't anywhere as skilled or intelligent about the game. Even traditional "effort" plays can look effortless if the player is skilled in that area. I would say it's fair to say Lebron had a big part of constructing the Lakers, and it's a great team. The main difference is that the team is totally leveraged from him as a great player and his relationships that a normal GM wouldn't have. You could potentially argue that players might still want to play for him if he took a GM role somewhere because he can create a culture but that remains to be seen.
