Keeping their games away from Sony has obviously enormous benefits, too.

When Elder Scrolls 6 drops for only Xbox and PC. o_O

That writer doesn't know a lot about the topic it seems, EA Play is also available on Playstation and MS doesn't have a **** to say about where EA makes it available.

The low-price Game Pass model inherently isn't about big budget AAA exclusives, as Jim Ryan from Sony noted recently.
Game Pass is aimed at attracting a large as possible crowd by having a variety of genres and a high quantity to choose from, with the low monthly fee it doesn't make as much sense for a blockbuster game with very high developing costs.

If you make enormous games like Sony, or in this case Zenimax/Bethesda, you need to sell them at a rather high price instead of using a subscription model.
Refusing to have PS5 versions and possibly an entire platform (especially when Sony has the highest playerbase) of users that buy at full price would just be a giant money burn.

Bethesda games will likely be 1-ish year limited exclusives.

Drops in time for the dlc.

Sony fans are desperately hoping this is all true. We will see. Microsoft seems to have them by the balls, and I wouldn't be surprised If they squeeze even If they take some short-term losses.

That player base you speak of will switch to Microsoft in a HEARTBEAT If The Elder Scrolls and Fallout are exclusive, I guarantee you that. If I was Microsoft, I'd let them come to you and not the other way around.

So we just gonna act like God of War, Last of Us, Spiderman, Tsushima, Horizon, Yakuza, Uncharted, Bloodborne, Persona, Days Gone etc don't exist?

Sony has dominated the F out of the exclusive market for generations and now MS "has them by the balls" because of the Zenimax deal?

No one would switch from Playstation to XBox just because of Fallout and Elder Scrolls.

Ahh... So the truth will set you free. We found a butthurt Sony fanboy! ;)

ES6 for me, is worth 100000000000x that slew of weak sauce titles you just posted. Not even talking about FONV2, Starfield, Fable, DOOM, HALO, GEARS. ****ING Obsidian! Avowed!

You go play Spiderman and Persona Bro... Hahaha... I will say one thing though, If you are Japanese or into Japanese RPGs, SONY is the way to go.

I'm not a Sony fanboy, I had a 360 last gen and will likely buy a PS5 and Series X depending on the game catalogues.

But acting like the Sony exclusives are weak is just childish and biased bs, I'm not about immature consoles wars and poo flinging.

Fable has been mediocre since the 2nd game, the new Halo looks like last gen and generic (I didn't buy any Halo past the second title), Gears and Doom are on PC, Starfield isn't announced to be an exclusive.

What you aren't even bothering to mention, most of the fanbase, including me, prefers Elder Scrolls and Fallout on PC because of the stellar modding scene, I haven't been playing these games on consoles for a decade plus.

Bethesda going exclusive is massive. You can down play it all you want, but Bethesda and Obsidian have the potential to be massive heavy hitters, obviously.

Most of the fanbase plays on console and the modding scene on console is quickly approaching that of PC. (Especially with Microsoft, because of Sony BS...)

Also, your average person isn't going to be a total nerd and have a PC, PS and an Xbox. They are going to choose 1. This is important.

Then you should worry about it. You play those games and Xbox and PC owners will get the others.

    CONSOLE WARS, YEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

    Some of my thoughts:

    * At this point, who knows whether those Bethesda games will be exclusive. I think there are good arguments either way. I personally think most/all Bethesda games will end up (timed?) exclusive (especially as we go into 2022 and beyond), but that could easily be wrong (especially if MS somehow wants and manages to convince Sony to support Game Pass).

    * The studios MS acquired greatly bolsters their first party lineup, making it so much better than before. This will be a big help to them in increasing sales of consoles and more importantly Game Pass.

    * I do think a lot of people (myself included) will likely play Bethesda games on PC (regardless of console exclusivity), but there will definitely be some people buying a XSX/XSS for these games.

    * Don't think it will change Sony's overall plans much, though it might pressure them to pursue more studio acquisitions and/or exclusive content. And they seemed pretty aggressive in these areas already.

    * Oodle technology is the real difference maker in this console war. Much more important than TFLOPs, Auto HDR, Tempest Engines, exclusive games, subscription services, game streaming, etc.

OK I'm mostly joking about that last one...mostly. :p

Bro y’all are ****ing grown men, are y’all really doing the console war stuff in here?

I always get both systems. PlayStation has amazing exclusives, resistance, kill zone, god of war, Spider-Man, demon souls, blood borne, uncharted, last of us, Tsushima, horizon, persona 5, Turismo

Xbox has great ones too, Halo, Gears, Forza, Flight Simulator, Fable

Clearly, PlayStation has way more banger exclusives. Xbox on the other hand has a much bigger app/media selection, Xbox has more people online making it more lively IMO, and game pass absolutely ***** on PS play.

Both are great systems, get the one you like, leave others alone, don’t be weirdos.

Microsoft is trying to sell their streaming service, not their console. Having such heavy hitters in tow is huge.

The math is simply impossible to try and make back 7.5 billion dollars by making huge properties like Elder Scrolls and Fallout X-box exclusive. Their presence will certainly move a few more X-box's, but not enough to make that huge a difference. And whatever profit you might make would be offset by lost sales overall. Some of the lesser box office properties I certainly forsee going X-Box exclusive.

And that is why I avoided working on game dev like the plague. Unexpected overtime (unpaid because salary!) and random late nights and weekends are bad enough with regular dev jobs.

Lots of Sony employees on the internet who don’t work for Sony lol
Console wars are dumb unless you have a direct stake like you work for Microsoft and your bonus check depends on sales.
Other than that this isn’t the nba , there are no teams. If you watch the rockets vs the lakers you can’t root for both teams to win.

a console is a device you can own both of them or none of them.
Like I have a LG OLED TV and Samsung refrigerator. There’s no Korean tech war here , just superior appliances compared to the suckers who bought GE

Agree, there's not much money to be made from hardware sales (hardware is sold close to cost to trap people in a single store platform); spending big on content upfront to capture recurring subscribers is pretty much normal now (e.g. Netflix).

Yea that's what most don't get, they've been intentionally selling consoles for only breakeven or even at a loss for a while now, it's all about the service subscriptions and gaming sales.
