@Mr.Scarface dumbass defending this trade all thread long LOL. 13 rushes for 23 yards is what you get. Hopkins got PAID and is on a 3-0 team. Take that sucka
Man Hopkins is living life now. I'm happy for him that he got to step out of O'brien's shadow of incompetence.
Where did I defend this trade? Show me where I say I LIKED the trade, I'll wait. I understand WHY they made it. It was about money. I Never defended the trade. Get it right. With that said, running up the middle isn't getting Hopkins the ball. THAT is the ****ing problem. Horrible play calling.
You weren't right about that either - it wasn't about money. It was about a butthurt head coach. David Johnson costs more than Deandre Hopkins this year and next, and while Hopkins wanted a new contract, he had literally no new leverage to negotiate one. The Texans could have not made the trade and they'd still have Hopkins and more money than they have now. As the Texans often do, BoB got offended someone wanted more money and just jettisoned an elite player for the first trade they could find.
Yup. The trade doesn't even make sense financially. We could have easily gotten at least 1 more season out of Hopkins because he had literally no leverage with that amount of time left on his contract. It made no sense. And the worst part of the trade isn't even letting go of Hopkins. It's what we got in return for Hopkins. Couldn't even nab a god damn first round pick for one of the top 2 receivers in the league.
It is not about this year and next. It is about Years 3 4 and 5 (especially 4 and 5) of the contract Hopkins signed. Watson extension doesn't kick in until 2022. The problem is paying Watson, Tunsil, and Hopkins...would be tough. It could be done, but it will hurt fill out the roster. David Johnson's contract is not guaranteed after this year. Neither is Cooks (Rams are paying $8 million of Cooks contract this year). It was a bad MOVE. BoB let his ego get in the way. Nothing can be done now...except fire BoB.
You still aren't getting the point. Hopkins had no leverage. We could have easily had him this year and considered trading him next off-season with the 2 years he had left on his contract. He won't hold out for 2 straight seasons. That would tank his value.
I hate to tell you, Hopkins wouldn't have helped in these first 3 games. The Team's offense is horrible. Playcalling is worse. As for forcing Hopkins to play when he wanted to leave, that would have made things worse on this team. You needed to get rid of Bob or Hopkins. The McNairs made the WRONG choice.
And 2 receptions for 23 yards. Deandre Hopkins today: 10 Receptions, 137 yards. (Johnson has 134 rushing yards on the season, LOL)
We could have also kept Hopkins AND signed Cooks and Cobb. Trading him didn't give us extra money to go out and pursue other receivers. We could've done both. And I'm pretty sure our running game would be in exactly the same spot with a RB that didn't cost $10M/year.
I just don't know why he wasn't shopped around. That was the suspicion, but it was confirmed as fact by the Rivera quotes before the Washington-Arizona game. I mean, we all kind of know that BoB is a coaching idiot at some level and decent at some aspects. We all kind of know he sacrificed the future as a GM to save his job as a coach. We all kind of know his emotions can override his ablility to process logical decisions. But crap, why not shop Hopkins for the best deal? You can still feel like the boss AND get a better return. I'm just dumbfounded that he wasn't shopped, but just offered for a crap trade.
