BWAR is horrible in the age of universal DH, weights defense way too much. Davis has been an elite hitter with the Mets (136 wRC+ in 2019, 120 this year).
You have a very interesting definition of what "elite" means this year. And he's only DH'd 9 times. He is literally *that ****ing bad* with a glove, possibly one of the worst corner defenders (3B/LF) in MLB. He was great last year with the bat, though, now he's an OB no power guy with no position. Remind you of anyone? Tyler something?
From 2019-2020 he is 31st in MLB in wRC+ (min 600 pa). If for you that’s not elite, ok, then maybe just “really really good”? If Tyler White had maintained a 120 wRC+ as an everyday player, he’d still be Houstons 1B. Sadly for him his power completely cratered (.096 iso); if JD Davis posts a wRC+ of 71, he will be out of the league too. But for now he’s a “really really good” hitter who is a pretty crummy defender.
Watching Charlie Morton carve up the Phillies. He's on today and has 4 strikeouts in 2 innings. Some really bad swings by the Phillies.
Yes, someone should absolutely use him as a part time something/DH. That's all he is. He belongs in the AL
Was just thinking how huge it would have been if the Astros had been able to figure out JD Martinez before giving him up. If that happens: 2015: Instead of trading for Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers they trade for David Price or Johnny Cueto. They probably go further in the playoffs. It’s possible they acquire Price without giving up Hader. 2016: Replace Fiers/Fister/Kazmir with Price, replace Gomez/Tucker with JD Martinez, this is a championship caliber roster. 2017: They don’t sign Beltran because they have Martinez, they probably don’t do the trash can thing. Even tho they would have had Keuchel and Price, they may still have gotten Morton and Verlander. Insane to think about how good that roster would have been. 2018-: not only does the cheating scandal not happen, it’s possible they still have Hader (due to not doing the Gomez trade) and have an extra draft pick from Martinez QO. Hader means no need for Osuna, so maybe that trade doesn’t happen.
Here's a better video tribute...speaking of many jokes: "Do you want your child to master the baseball techniques that have gotten 1 person to the major leagues?" "Throw like you don't have an elbow." "You're gonna want a lot of movement, like a hungry man chasing a taco." I wish they had worked in the hot tub and sliding glass door somehow.
Line drives are a b**ch to read in the outfield, I can only imagine MLB line drives. But still, WTF. How do you misread a ball that badly.
