Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on Thursday that law enforcement officials had arrested four individuals for their alleged involvement in an illegal ballot harvesting scheme in the state’s 2018 Democrat primary election. One of the people who was arrested was the Democrat who won the primary race. “It is an unfortunate reality that elections can be stolen outright by mail ballot fraud. Election fraud, particularly an organized mail ballot fraud scheme orchestrated by political operatives, is an affront to democracy and results in voter disenfranchisement and corruption at the highest level,” Attorney General Paxton said in a statement. “Mail ballots are vulnerable to diversion, coercion, and influence by organized vote harvesting schemes. This case demonstrates my commitment to ensuring Texas has the most secure elections in the country, and I thank the Gregg County Sheriff and District Attorney for their continued partnership. Those who try to manipulate the outcome of elections in Texas must be held accountable.” https://www.texastribune.org/2020/09/24/texas-gregg-county-voter-fraud/
Were these actual voters who falsely claimed to be disabled to vote by mail or were they forged ballots?
Prosecutors in North Carolina filed new felony charges against a Republican political operative accused of ballot tampering in a congressional election in 2018. Leslie McCrae Dowless was charged Tuesday with two counts of felony obstruction of justice, perjury, solicitation to commit perjury, conspiracy to obstruct justice and illegal possession of absentee ballots, according to a statement by Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman. https://www.npr.org/2019/07/30/7468...s-new-felony-charges-that-allege-ballot-fraud North Carolina prosecutors have announced that Leslie McCrae Dowless, the political operative accused of illegally collecting absentee ballots in that state's 9th Congressional District, has been indicted on charges of obstruction of justice and possessing absentee ballots. https://www.npr.org/2019/02/27/6986...ive-at-center-of-tainted-n-c-election-charged
The easiest way to vote fraudulently is to usurp one's elderly parents' votes. I imagine that sort of fraud occurs unchecked every election. Not a lot that can be done about that except to rely on folks not to commit a felony.
This is STRAIGHT out of the Trump playbook.... It is hilarious to me that there are still people that do not see what Trump and the GOP are doing.
Yes, or if a kid in college gets one and their parents vote. Honestly I doubt it happens often though, the punishment is quite severe and what is the payoff really? In most states we already know who is going to win the GE and even in contested states the elections are decided by thousands of votes.
This. A lot of conservatives living in their conspiracy bubble don't understand the opportunity cost(5 years in prison) is not worth it for a single vote. Most people are already apathetic to voting. Find me the handful of people who are willing to see the poor cost worth it.
F.B.I. Director Sees No Evidence of National Mail Voting Fraud Effort WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. has not seen evidence of a “coordinated national voter fraud effort,” its director, Christopher A. Wray, told lawmakers on Thursday, undercutting President Trump’s efforts to stoke fears about mail-in ballots by claiming without evidence that they are an election threat... https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/24/us/politics/fbi-director-voter-fraud.html
Throw the book at ballot harvesters. I'm cool with that. And 38 votes was material in a race for county commissioner -- he won the primary by 5 votes. But it still doesn't seem scalable. 9 million Texans voted in 2016. For Clinton to overcome Trump in that election in Texas, she would have had to harvest over 800,000 votes. Even the closest 2016 state, New Hampshire (which might be smaller than Gregg County, idk lol), she'd need to harvest over 2,700 votes. Compared to 4 guys collectively harvesting 38 votes. At their rate, Clinton would need 270 people working on stealing New Hampshire. You'd need to be a lot more efficient than whatever these guys were doing if you're going to influence any national election. Because if fraudsters can get caught stealing 38 votes, just imagine your exposure trying to steal 2,700 votes or 800,000 votes.
Interesting timing here after a two and a half year investigation and a whole 38 ballots in some tiny ass local election.
You're going to see lots of little incidents here and there. Someone will help jack with some ballots, they'll get a Trump Salad Tosser on the air to point it out, it'll get played up on FAUX and One Russian Netw---er, O-"A"-N---and the Trump chimps will dance to the organ grinder's tune. Mark Meadows was at it today, pushing back on the FBI Director. Because, you know, Mark Meadows knows more about law enforcement than the Director of the FBI. Just as Trump knows more about everything than everybody.
In a letter to the FBI and FDLE, Moody referenced a law that makes it illegal to “directly or indirectly give or promise anything of value to another in casting his or her vote.” Bloomberg will get it done .. https://www.wfla.com/8-on-your-side...ed-election-laws-by-helping-felons-pay-debts/
Did you use a wrong link? That quote isn't from the article at the link. From the article, it sounds like they were indicted for falsely claiming disabled status. "An East Texas county commissioner was arrested Thursday on charges that he and three associates committed voter fraud in a 2018 primary election. A grand jury indicted Shannon Brown, a Democratic Gregg County commissioner whose office is in Kilgore, Marlena Jackson, Charlie Burns and DeWayne Ward, on numerous felony charges in a scheme that allegedly involved falsely claiming voters were disabled in order to obtain absentee ballots. ... When applying for an absentee ballot, voters who are disabled must check a box affirming they have a disability. They are not required to provide any documentation or details, but must certify that the information they provide is correct and acknowledge that giving false information is a crime. Local election officials do not have the authority to verify a voter’s disability status. But voting rights advocates, as well as advocates for people with disabilities, have been concerned this year that Paxton or other local prosecutors might pursue and try to prosecute voters who cite disabilities to vote by mail. Prosecutors did not answer questions about how they verified the disability status of the voters."
In 2018, Florida voters overwhelmingly voted for allowing felons to vote after their sentence are complete, by 64%. Florida Republican's installed a poll tax. Not so fast. You must pay before you can vote. Bloomberg offer to pay. Florida Republican scream unfair! Voter suppression is the Republican ways.
I know that is correct as long as they aren’t incarcerated for murder or rape charges I believe ...however the law still stands that you can’t promise something of value in return for a vote cast and this is where Bloomberg is in hot water based on that
Right... minimal impact, but I assume it is the most common type of voter fraud and I also assume most fraudulent votes cancel each other out.
