Also note that Kerr had also been a GM before he was named coach. Nash is coming into the league cold turkey so to speak - no coaching, scouting or head office experience.
Some teams are built for "win-now" before their players hit their 30's. Kerr took over a 51-31 team that the front office felt was under-performing, not a lottery team. The Rockets are an older team that's also under-performing. Cassell is well respected around the league and players, and has been an assistant coach for 11 years. He's probably one of the few candidates that can get buy-in from his Super Stars. Only other candidate that i can think of that would get immediate buy-in is probably Coach Pop, but i highly doubt he's leaving SAS.
Sam will make a great coach for this team. They just drank the wrong koolaide that everyone else has been drinking... Stop bad gimmick ball and get us some fundamentals which is something I think he will excel in. Get rid of westbrook... hell at this point if toronto will bite i'll take kyle lowry and past prime marc gasol for him.
