Amen, but as usual, the people who need to heed these warnings have the Republican vote in their mitochondria. And this shouldn't even be a left-versus-right thing.

I don't know any solutions but I understand and accept that we need to follow the science and at least do what we can.

It's very sad. I preferred a time when both major political parties embraced the process and value of science. And I preferred scientific publications not endorsing candidates. But the modern GOP, in particular, pushes everyone to take a side. It seems to abhor, consume, or reject neutral parties. Neutral groups serve a very valuable function, and scientific entities, in a healthy society, are one of those groups.

All that said, at other extreme times in history, when scientists failed to take a stand, they lived to greatly regret it.

I remember when Republicans were the party of science. It feels like forever ago.

Yeah, I have definitely voted for republican candidates in my lifetime. That seems like a long time ago too. There's definitely a link between our two statements.

I really think you have to look at the 1990's with the great expansion (oops) of Rush Limbaugh and talk radio folks making a cottage industry of undercutting "so-called experts" as a way to build their base. It feels thrilling to be in on something that the "so-called experts" just don't understand. We see it around here and all over the internet. Le sigh. It's literally a Medieval way of thinking, unfortunately. No reason to be nice about it.

Lol at voting for either of these two bums. You involve Harris and it's an even bigger **** show. I'm embarrassed honestly that this is where we stand
