Let's just all agree coaching is overrated. What, am I supposed to think that Frank Vogel is now a great coach and Pop is now a mediocre coach? Was David Blatt a bad coach, but Ty Lue a great coach? Lol. Are there great coaches and bad coaches? Sure. Is the difference between a great coach and an average close all that meaningful? Not really.
I don't think Donovan is a bad coach. I don't think you win in college unless you know your Xs and Os, problem with many college coaches is that they do not know how to manage NBA level egos and attitudes. In College, they are the Alpha and Omega. In the NBA...their best player could get them fired with a word.
This was inevitable after Game 3. The team clearly gave up on the small ball experiment, which would mean MDA lost his voice in the locker room. The relationship ran its course, and it's time to get back to basics.
To be fair, Vogel made Indiana relevant again, even though LeBron was the unbeatable final boss. The Indy team with PG and Hibbert was really really good. Then he went through 2 years of crap Magic rosters in which no coach (probably) could find success. I don't think Vogel is a great great coach, but he's underrated.
Not like he made is easier for them. Not sad to see him go. We need to hire someone to hold Harden more accountable and then we need to get rid of Westbrook.
since most people (me included) think cp3 is better than westbrook, wasn't losing his franchise player a good thing?
I sincerely hope he ends up in Philly or Indiana. He absolutely loves Eric Gordon. I would absolutely love to never watch him scream foul in red again. Eric Gordon + House for Myles Turner. Eric Gordon for Josh Richardson + Matisse Thybulle.
Mike Dantoni is in Love with Domantas Sabonis, I think Domantas will reach a new level. Myles Turner can shoot 3s but he does postup.
He's a very good player. He's overpaid now. He's also redundant. He doesn't work well anymore. We need our third guard to be able to run the offense. Russ clearly is unable to run an offense , so Eric doesn't work as well with the second unit as he once did with CP3. He's on the wrong side of 30. May have some positive value. MDA loves him and thinks he's the best defender on the Rockets. Perfect storm and all the teams linked to MDA could use him.
I don't think he really makes adjustments, which then shows up in the playoffs. I was VERY surprised at their defensive showing, prior to meeting the Lakers (who pose a really difficult matchup problem, especially without House).
