How I'll remember MDA is for his playoff strategy: MDA - begin with great strategy Opposition coach - comes up with effective counter MDA - continue with initial strategy despite reduced results
Man if he could actually guard Lebron.....like he did Harden....you would absolutely see him. It doesnt matter anyways though, both of them lost their jobs.
In before the Dan Tony appreciation thread. Goodbye to the legend that innovated basketball and helped make harden the player he is today. Put harden at point and got him an MVP. Too bad it didn't work.
All of those guys can shoot though. Other than Westbrook who has to be played because of his stature and potential to take over games, who has MDA played that can't shoot or is an average shooter? MDA 100% approved that trade too. If he told Morey they needed Capela, Capela doesn't get traded. MDA has ALWAYS wanted to run this experiment. He always clashes with big men where he goes because this is what he wants to do. He's going to go down with small ball till the end. Just watch. Indy is going to get him next I am sure, he won't go anywhere near Philly because of Embiid.
If Morey sets the system, Tyson Chandler would be playing. No matter, this was the best for him and the Rockets. D'Antoni likely feels unappreciated and Rockets feel they given him a good roster for him to play with. D'Antoni likely can get another job this year. If he continue as Rockets coach and the team fall apart, he'll be done as coach forever because he isn't getting younger. The one that may hurt the most is Harden because D'Antoni gave him green light 365. He will have to change his game for the next coach. Or he maybe the next one forcing out next season.
nit that there’s really a way to rebuild but what implications does it have for overall team direction, strategy, etc. ???
LOOOLLL @ Joerger, he's overrated AF or at least he was. Not sure people really see him as this great coach anymore.
I do think Morey and MDA have different evaluations on this. Morey clearly does value bigs, he's brought in a lot through the years. I don't think Morey is tied to small-ball, I do think he's tied to the analytic ball, but I don't think he's married to small ball as much as people think he is.
don’t think he would’ve gotten the time needed to showcase what he can really do defensively...not as a rookie with that shot he had all regular season to show his defensive prowess in OKC...in Houston, he’d probably be glued to the bench and we wouldn’t even know he’s that good defensively
When a "progressive" organization takes away most of your assistants in the offseason, forces a hire down your throat that nobody else wants and that you or your players have no chemistry/trust with, invites a replacement head coaching candidate to your training camp, humiliates you with a low-ball extension offer made public, saddles you with lame-duck status, gives you a flawed/patchwork roster that's put together at the deadline with a questionable trade and castoffs, and puts luxury tax savings profits above winning year after year--knowing that a championship is within reach--it's probably time to move on. Good luck coach! And thanks! I know wherever you go you're going to turn things around.
Okay then why didnt Ben play. Like I said, if the dude can make an impact Dort will play. Which he did none of, he actively hurt us this entire series. T Capela was injured, and Morey was wanting to do that for a very long time, he coulnd stop Morey even if he wanted to. Well he's interviewing for the job in Philly so I dont know what to tell you dude.
Man, if he could have played defense like that, I really REALLY doubt that. Even Hartenstein, Gary and Clemmons got time to showcase themselves, Dort is a better player than all of them.
You have a rosey view of MDA. MDA likes who he likes and trusts who he trusts. PJ can fail all he wants, but he is not going to be pulled from the rotation. Dort didn't just all of sudden become a great defender, he got reps to cut out the flaws in his defense and spacing. MDA is not one to let a rookie, or player he doesn't like just figure it out. doesn't matter how many games you play well, you screw up once and you're done forever. MDA is not going to coach you up. Dort as a Rocket would NEVER be allowed to figure it out with game reps.
You really just can't prove that. Mike will play guys who are good, simple as that. You dont think if he saw Dort ding Harden up in practice he wouldnt have played.....no, he definitely would have. Dort is better than Gary, he's better than Hartenstein and he's better than Clemmons.
Ben plays though? And MDA has a short rotation, we've seen decent players cut like Gary Clark who can't shoot but clearly they can come in for good minutes and they get released. Ben plays 0 defense but he can shoot so he plays. Dort would not have even seen the floor, him being undrafted, he'd be on the RGV if he were lucky. You didn't answer the question either, who, other than Russ, can't shoot and sees the floor under MDA? It just doesn't happen. Everyone on the floor can shoot, other than Russ who we have to play, that's why we go small ball in the first place.
