Um. Yes, the Series S will run at 1440p, not 4k. The CPU is the SAME as the Series X, so is the SSD type (not size). It will run games at 120fps and do ray tracing, which the Xbox One X cannot do.

It's the same CPU with lower clock, vastly worse GPU, and the ram is much slower while also 6gb smaller.
The differences are pretty big, also the 1440p and 120fps stated for Series S are optimal cases for certain games and not the norm, even the series x will struggle to hit 60fps with some games.

Even though I thought it was pretty interesting, I don't think the issue about XSS not playing X1X versions of games is that big of a deal. It is only an issue if you actually care a lot about the X1X versions of games (and only those games that don't get "next-gen" patches), and you plan on getting a XSS instead of a XSX. Presumably, if you have a X1X, you would likely benefit greatly from a XSX anyway, so this probably isn't an issue. Unless you were more interested in the XSS for some reason. And if you are in that group, you'd still be getting a better experience out of the XSS than the X1X except when it comes to playing old X1 games (and even then, XSS would offer some improvements).

The difference between XSX and XSS remains to be seen I guess. The RAM stuff I mentioned earlier makes me wonder if the XSS might be more limited than I originally thought, though even if that is the case, devs might just redesign their games to work on both platforms (and others?) appropriately, so might not really affect the XSS or XSX decision too much. Maybe you get a 900p/1080p game with limited/no ray tracing vs a XSX game running at 1440p/4K with some ray traced reflections or something. The former will likely still be pretty great for most people, and it could go 120 FPS in multiplayer with enough tweaks.

Taking a wait and see approach is always fine. We still haven't seen very much of next-gen, so who knows about most of this stuff (can XSX and PS5 even do that much ray tracing to be worth it?). Or just jump in with that Xbox All Access plan and upgrade to XSX later (or some other Xbox platform that might be released at that point).

I think the series s looks cooler than all the other consoles . I guess If you are strictly on it for game pass and don’t have a X1X than yeah it would be a good deal.
The issue is we haven’t seen enough of real next gen games. Right now gears 5 is the best graphical game on any Xbox. They are suppose to show us a better game than that.

I got the max 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate with the Gold to Ultimate $1 conversion. It's a great deal. You might want to see what kind of promos GameStop will have for trading in a X1X towards a Series X. Here's what EB Games is doing in Australia:

I want a PS5 more than upgrading my X1X right now because I'm using my original PS4 still.

Cyberpunk will be interesting since I'm sure we'll get lots of analysis on how it runs on the current systems, and on the next gen systems with backwards compatibility. Next year we'll be able to compare the next gen upgraded version.

The life span of the Witcher three is insane. There’s so many quests that you’ll never have the same experience.

I’m thinking the same thing for cyberpunk.

I’ve looked around haven’t seen any trade in deals yet. There are a few games I’ve been wanting to play on ps so I’m think I might scoop that first and wait till a trade in deal pops up to pull the trigger on the x but I’m still deciding.

They’re charging 799 in Australia wtf?

The currency is different, but it's still a good deal more expensive.

750 AUD is 546 USD. So 45 bucks more expensive, and then I'm sure taxes are a bit different too.

Trade in deals for new Xbox systems at GameStop. They’re not great but not terrible depending on how much you paid for your current system. Not sure when this starts.

Do you know if you have to include a controller when trading in a console? Ive got a xbox one 500gb just collecting dust. I wouldnt mind 100.00 towards the X.

I'm pretty sure you have to have everything on the trade in. The controller and power cord.

Dayum they went with the 399 digital system, matched Xbox's price for series X.

Crazy price war to get the prices that low. Here's to hoping Xbox retaliates by making the series s 450.

They didn't give a date in the conference for whatever reason. Hopefully he's not wrong.

I liked what I saw from the showcase. I'm still waiting for more details on some of the games (like above). Plus I *STILL* want to see more UI/OS stuff.

    Huh?
Xbox Series S is $299. Xbox series X is $499, same as the PS5. Digital PS5 $399. I bet Sony thought they would pull a surprise with the $399 price for the Digital. The $299 Series S price probably caught them by surprise.
