Just curious...why no mention of the Oscar itself showing some diversity? Clearly a man, and all one color. No diversity there at all. And that doesn't even get into the name...that obviously has to go.

The Oscar trophy being a gold and a looking like a man, should be canceled and replaced with with a trophy of rainbow colors that represent every single color/race/tribe in the world and then make it a half women/half man trophy with 1 arm/1 leg and with an eye patch (but need to be careful if that eye patch is on the male or female side as we don't want an uproar.

Then with each Oscar trophy, it must come with a certificate that certifies this trophy is pure and follows all the ethics/morality rules on Earth and that the person/group winning this trophy won because he/she/it/they did the best job for the best role.

2, 4 and 5 provide a straightforward path with no content or story compromises. The women and LGBTQ+ qualifiers definitely keep it in the cul-de-sac.

Think Blu-Ray / digital downloads and winter re-releases, Oscars market to affluent old people the way summer Marvel and DC franchises own teenagers.

Related article from the Washington Post:

"A review of winners from the past 15 years suggests the new rules will usher in less change than advocates hope and critics fear."

"The Washington Post reviewed the past 15 years of best picture winners, dating back to 2005’s “Crash,” to see how much the new rules would change the landscape if those films came out now. The vast majority of winners — 73 percent — would have met the criteria without altering any casting practices or crew hires. Others could have done so with relatively minor changes."

When you see Jake Gyllenhaal cast as the lead in the Prince of Persia maybe the organic way needs a push.

This one I disagree with I thought SJ was actually a good fit for the role -- Major is Japanese, but was drawn in the anime as a western woman with blue eyes.

Yeah these standards aren't really that big of a deal and likely won't change movies much.

Hamfisted solution to a subtle problem and it waters down the competition. Might as well give all nominees a trophy, like in kid's sports.

Right? He's supposed to be Persian but I didn't see any shiny shirts or gold chains.

She does not look Western and that's not how I see The Major.

I have read that she was supposed to look western but I never saw it and this is what I think of when I think of the major.

    And why no Western name?

But I will admit Jake in Prince of Persia was more egregious. maybe me being disapointed in GITS the movie has more to do with it.
