I think the human animal is a dichotomy of of our animal instincts that feed on emotional (hormonal) reactions and the higher thinking brain that reacts to reason. It's understandable that one or the other may be dominant in any individual from genetics and socialization. The emotional side has been developing for 2 million years or more, maybe back to the first organic molecules. The higher thinking brain has only been around maybe 200,000 years so it's a lot harder to cultivate a high thinking dominance. It;s a lot easier to just react to whatever the juice the body releases.
