He ain't wrong, but the solution is not to "stand tall for the flag and country" (aka conservative virtue signaling nationalist p*rn) as much as it is to just untangle sports and politics altogether.

Sports can and should be venues for political activism, particularly when the majority of players are black

If you want to make more money, yes.

Can? Yes. Should? Well, only if you want to jeopardize your career, employer, or industry altogether.

I don't typically care for activism of any stripe to be included in the entertainment I consume. Even if I agree with it, it's still a turn off because it isn't what I chose the product for. There are exceptions, but they're rare and reserved for things that are particularly important/justified and often made in a very poignant/elegant way. History remembers those moments fondly... others not so much.

I don’t think putting Black Lives Matter on the Court or the players boycotting a game after another police shooting is controversial at all. The only people who care are the ones who don’t watch basketball anyway. I’m glad they’re doing it

History romanticizes and remembers it much differently than the people who went through it. Ali went through tons of racist **** for his stance on the war, same thing with the power salute. History only remembers it fondly because the racist people who condemned it are mostly dead. The same people here who are doggedly racist, obtusely racist, willfully ignorantly racist would have been much more all of that back then. Ali and Tommy Smith would be huge supporters of what the NBA players are doing, same with Martin Luther King, same with John Lewis, same with Rosa Parks.

This is a great attitude to have if you're OK with driving people away from the NBA, or not concerned with bringing more people in.

Just one man's opinion, but personally, it's not contributing to my enjoyment of the product, if not actively taking away from my enjoyment.

I definitely do not envy the people who have to balance the players' desires vs. the bottom-line of the organization.
