Yes, or maybe a similar valued prospect that is a couple years away from needing to be on 40-man. I'm not expecting Click to be a miracle worker. Nova and Ivey would seem to be the big trade chips to actually acquire value now, and I'm not sure what those two would bring.

Right now, it looks like Astros are dumpster diving. They are kicking the tires on Bradley who has gotten incredibly lucky this year keeping the ball in the park. They are kicking the tires on Robbie Ray despite him making McCullers and Abreu look like Bob Ross painting happy little trees on the corners.

P.S. If Click pulls off getting a good pitcher for the stretch run, he should be elevated to miracle worker status.

I have proposed some hypothetical trades which pose the Astros as sellers, but I do not think those are likely to happen at all and I do not advocate Houston making seller moves unless they get an overwhelming deal which doesn’t make this years team worse by more than a win or 2.

Houston has a stacked lineup, a deep (if young) pitching staff, and two hall of fame aces. They are virtually guaranteed to make the playoffs. They will return an excellent roster next season and they project to have a contending roster through at least 2024.

I did some rough analysis of how the 2017 and 2019 WS rosters were constructed, and compared that against what a comparable 2024 roster might look like:

    2017:
6 homegrown stars: Altuve, Marwin, Springer, Peacock, Correa, Bregman all put up 3+ fWAR in 2017.
3 stars with significant contracts acquired via trade or free agency: Verlander, Reddick, Morton all put up 3+ fWAR
5 homegrown regulars: Marisnick, McCullers, Keuchel, Devenski, McHugh all put up 1-3 fWAR
4 regulars acquired via free agency or trade: McCann, Gurriel, Gattis, Giles all put up 1-3 fWAR
2 homegrown complementary players (<1 fWAR): Musgrove, Fisher
5 complementary players acquired via trade/free agency: Beltran, Aoki, Gregerson, Fiers, Rondon

    2019:
5 homegrown stars: Altuve, Bregman, Correa, Springer, Alvarez
5 external stars: Verlander, Cole, Greinke, Brantley, Gurriel
3 homegrown regulars: Harris, Peacock, Marisnick
6 external regulars: Miley, Osuna, Pressly, Reddick, Chirinos, Diaz
5 homegrown complementary: McHugh, Valdez, Devenski, James, White
    1 external complementary: Maldonado

Averaging the number from each of those groups, a 2024 roster might look like this:

5 homegrown stars: Alvarez, Tucker, Whitley, Valdez, Javier
4 stars on big contracts: Altuve, Bregman, TBD SP, TBD OF
4 homegrown regulars: Toro, Leon, Urquidy, Lee
5 external regulars: TBD 1B, TBD RP x4
4 homegrown complementary: Taylor, Paredes, Bielak, Straw
3 external complementary: TBD C, TBD UT, TBD IF

    The Issue is simple.
What are you gonna do or try to accomplish after this season?
Sure we are in 2nd, but can't we addition and subtraction?
REDDICK is slowing down Tucker. When Brantley comes back to full health then tucker just DHs but what about after this season. He is the loan signed.
Word from GMs Springer will wanna get away from the Cheating scandal and may price himself out of our hands anyway.
Recent news is the Astros have approa hed Springer again about a long term deal. But nothing came from Springers side.
They Approached Brantley but again nothing has happened....
Reddick has to go and not come back.
Then you have to believe Yuli will get priced out Houston. So what then?
Then you gotta look at McCullers. Thinking he is top SP guy looking for top dollar in two years. But he is a bullpen guy in denial.
Js guys we can sell and improve.

Other news Astros looking to add two Pitchers and a Bat.

I hate to break it to you..... but if Brantley and Springer are gone it is entirely possible Reddick is back on a 1-2 year deal for 5-6 million a year.

The Astros have 1 month left of Reddick. Currently he is at least playing as an average ML player. If anyone is holding up Tucker defensively it's Brantley, since Reddick is better defensively than him. Considering Yordan is out for the year, there is no logjam that needs to be cleared to get Tucker playing time.

Who can they reasonably acquire that will improve the team's world series chances this year and next over McCullers, Reddick and Gurriel?

What if they pulled a trade with the Diamondbacks for all three Marte, Beadley and Ray?

Where has there been rumors that Springer wants to leave to “get away from the cheating scandal”? That’s mostly media driven bullshit anyways.

Problem, Reddick has to go. Js. Its just a fact. Dont need to explain why anymore.. its just he has to go. Leave it at that.

McCullers is to D streaky. And he really needs to go to the BP. PERIOD.

Gurriel is not worth what he will be asking for after this year.

    So as I was saying.
If you could offer Gurriel and McCullers to the Braves for Waters and a Pitching Prospect it would be a win.
Aquire a Josh Bell and you equal out what you have lost in the other trade.

Js your adding future stuff that doesn't hurt you this year. Only one that stings alittle is Gurriel but if you can add Bell it doesn't hurt asmuch.

Why do you want Ray? He's been horrible this year.

No its not. Rivil Gms have been saying it for the last month.
Seems there as been teams trying to trade for him.but the Astros have been stubborn about it. There's even acouple of players who have said the same. Saying Springer was down on himself because he was tired of hearing about it. And might would like a new start.

One would think he will be going after cash this time around anyways

"Rival GMs" make up stuff all the time, to try and give themselves for leverage. Similar philosophy to Boras using the "mystery team" in free agent negotiations.

These are just negotiation tactics. I would not put much stock in it.

Which rival GM’s have been saying it? And why would the Astros trade their lead off hitter and everyday CF during a title push.. how is that being “stubborn”?

And again, show me the exact quotes from specific players saying that Springer wants a fresh start... presuming that you’re not in the clubhouse or have first-hand contact with these “players”.

The only issues actually documented between the Astros and Springer were their back/forth in 2014 when the team tried to get him to sign an extension and Springer’s camp held firm that they’d wait.... and then there’s been more negotiations this last off-season that didn’t result in a deal. In the mean time, they did work out the arbitration buyout that paid him well over the last two years, so its not like they haven’t been able to agree on things (contract-wise).

He's got high spin rares but has control issues.

Strom has fixed many guys like Ray. Rat still has great stuff, he's just got to harness it.

Why does Reddick have to go today? Why does McCullers have to go today? Why does Yuli have to go today?

Two players with an OPS at .800 or higher?

He can throw pitches, and is in the Astros price range. Maybe Strom can fix him. Maybe he's Biagini. I'd rather take my chances with Ray than Biagini.

I don't think the comment earlier about seller moves was aimed at you. Historically, if you have made "Seller" type suggestions you have at least had valid reasons behind them.
