who is your uncle? Jose Viscaino? Orlando Palmiero? I would love to see him back, too. Was kinda bummed when he opted to sign with SF over us. Never thought he got the respect he deserved nationally when he was here.
"The Tampa Bay Rays have traded for outfielder Brett Phillips. Prospect Lucius Fox is headed back to the Royals."
Phillips hasn’t been impressive to date but I still think he can turn it around and be a solid MLB player. Hopefully he puts it all together in TAM, he landed in a solid organization. I’m here for Phillips wrecking havoc on NYY, just not HOU.
Phillips has 2.0 fWAR over 358 career MLB PA. Over a full season that’s roughly a 3.0 war player. He has a lot of value. I would have loved for Houston to make a trade like that.
In those 358 PA, he has ammassed a .205/.282/.344 line good for a 64 wRC+, along with a 35.2% K rate. It seems all of his value comes from his defense, which is going to make it very difficult for him to ever get close to 3.0 in a full season. Certainly not somebody I would see as an asset worth acquiring
War is a cumulative stat. So even if his value comes entirely from defense, it would project to accumulate the same way, assuming he provided the same level of defense over more innings. The strikeouts certainly appear to be a serious flaw. But defense and speed don’t slump.
Marisnick hit his first homer as a Met today. Part of a 5 run 6th inning that capped a comeback for the Mets in the Subway Series. Yankees are now the losers of 6 straight.
Neither did Jake for a while, or now maybe Straw. Oh no, we could have Fisher or whothehellever. Oops, oh well.
Mark Melancon saves his 6th game in 7 tries for the Braves. Yes, a game that saw the Braves open up 10-0 turned into a save situation.
Cole continuing to get hit hard...2R HR, 3 hits, 2B in first inning. How about that right field porch!
Can the Yankees podcasts devote another 5 hours to why Cole isn’t as good as he once was? honestly, he’s going to eventually snap at the NY media. Not sure he will be able to handle 9 years of this either. meanwhile, Brett Strom could probably get a blank check to be anybody’s pitching coach.
Just as I start watching that game....... Rays add another one! Kiermaier (yes, the defensive whiz not usually known for slugging) launched it into the second deck.
I agree. Strom is a wizard, Hope he stays healthy, and in good physical and mental shape and stays until he's 82 (the age of NYM's interim pitching coach, Phil Regan). I mean, I can't tell him what to do or how to spend his life but he still seems very sharp and per all reports he still loves his job. Not every pitcher who comes here becomes elite, but he knows how to turn "stuff" into production. He is one of the very best pitching coaches of all time, and he really deserves respect. Also, some players (see also: Sonny Gray) just can't handle the pressure and bright lights of being a Yankee. Time will tell if Cole will be another one.
