Closest best friend of mine passed away in 2015 of colon cancer at the age of 31. Had no idea he had it until he got so constipated he couldn't poop. So he rushed to the ER, which prompted an x-ray only to find the tumor had grown so large it was blocking his ability to ****. Was diagnosed stage IV with it having spread to his lymph nodes, spine and liver by then. Lived another two years after a tumultuous series of chemotherapy and radiation and putting up his best fight. Ass cancer is supposed to be an old man's disease you get in your 50s after decades of neglect through smoking, alcohol and weekly midnight drive-thru runs past 2 AM. It's not supposed to be a young man killer.

Condolences to his family and friends, not that they'd read this message.

Creating awareness for health screening/colonoscopies. Id imagine quite a few guys with family history of colon cancer might be booking one soon. Sad that it takes a dramatic death for people to do it but if there's at least one positive to take from it, that could be it.

    Rest in Peace

He went out doing what he loved his last few years and on his terms with family around him.

As @MystikArkitect mentioned awareness -- I had never seriously considered even thought about it until Howard Stern went on a (hilarious) show long rant about colon cancer and colonoscopies as he was prepping for one. A lot of people are going to be talking about colon cancer because it's really rare for someone so young and healthy to get it -- similar to Lance Armstrong and testicular cancer.

Not to derail the thread, but testicular cancer IS mostly found in young men from puberty to age 35.

Also far easier to check your nuts than it is to check your colon.

The saddest thing about Colon Cancer is that it is one of the cancers that is almost completely preventable. If they find the polyps and remove them before they become malignant, you don't get it.

Screening is important. If you have a family history, go early. The prep is crummy, but you're drugged for the procedure so it's not a big deal.

Since it occurs in black men more frequently, I'd think hard about starting at 40 (not that it would have helped Boseman, who was even younger.)

My GP told me they’re recommending 45.

I had it done recently. Prep isn’t a big deal at all, Americans are such privileged p*****s that they b**** about not eating solid food for a day and ******** water for a few hours. I actually gained weight during the prep, somehow. Tons of broth and I found a clear protein shake I could drink to make up for calories.

Procedure was easy- I was out cold.
