Police depts is supposed to be set up to keep ppl in safe, away from any kinda offence, intrusion, n the ppl here means ppl of all colors w/ no selection w/ no prejudice.

On the contrary, it's just not the situation, the situation is ppl feel unsafe, things getting worse yr after yr…(like nothing ever happened) when Mr president of the united states do nothing but spouting nonsense, when those ppl w/ great power or great fortune turning an blind-eye on (some) policemen's abuse of power, the justic of the society, the moral of the society just gone, but don't forget we always vote them to do something.

That's Why the timely stand-up n support from nba players even players in other leagues are so important, their anger n their voice means a lot…at least sorta attitude i.e. enough is enough.
Till now it is still quite fortunate that this video as well as many others could be exposed on social media, could draw attention, could wake up some who might feel the pain; however, it gonna be unfortunate should ppl get used to them as normal daily news consumption w/ cups coffee during brown bag meetings……George Floyd, Jacob Blake n many others being treated as the other *****? Jesus, i can't imagine.

 

NGL, I'm not black, so I do feel safer when I see police cars driving around in areas that have more homeless or solicitors who sometimes don't mind their own business.

That doesn't mean I don't feel resentful to the amount of fear and power police project along with the fact that your day or life could be ruined if you don't follow the song and dance they want you to perform.

That's the issue for me at least, so I'm not really into this "we feel safer w/o police" idea that's floating around.

I get that historically disadvantaged minorities are preyed and bullied upon so they might not share that opinion, but I don't think treating police as the main big ticket problem is the way for any meaningful reform.

I guess you missed the Justice Dept. sending people to gather information from Protestors? They were actually trying to develop common standards for Police. There was actually a report and recommendations finished. Trump tossed them in the garbage (with the help of Jeff Sessions), just like the Pandemic playbook.

 

I ain't black either, i feel safe as much as you do. However, i feel quite sure racial discrimination as well as social polarization are erodng the corner stone of this country that was allowing dreamers to grow, to breath, even to participate in a change in the system.
Now…it's becoming static. Voting either Trump or Biden, might make no difference.
I know police brutality n those abuse of force are only seemingly focal point… behind of which could be a essential political system melting diwn. As we all know Obama's campaign used the slogan "Change we can believe in" and the chant "Yes We Can", however he changed nothing.
As you hinted, yes, a truely n meaningful reform is in badly need for sure, but dreamers are being suffocated.

This is certainly true and much looting is obviously folks taking advantage of the chaos and anger over police brutality to steal. Frankly with COVID and increased poverty you will have more stealing. One of the most certain social psych correlations is increased theft and crime when poverty increases suddenly.
