Proof he's an absolutely horrible human being and deserves whatever he gets, says the right leaning crowd. Right?
I think the more macro problem is the difference in treatment of the two suspects by the police. Blake - hadn't killed anyone, there was no gunfire, didn't have a gun, may have been near a knife but didn't have one on him. He was not cooperating with police. His children were in the car in close proximity to him. He was outnumbered by police. Result: shot multiple times in the back by police Rittenhouse - illegally carrying firearms on a scene where there was gunfire, people had been shot. There were huge crowds of people likely equaling or out numbering the police. He was cooperating with the police. Rsult: Greeted and allowed to peacefully walk through police lines. Why was the white guy illegally carrying a gun in a situation where there was gunfire and people were shot treated one way and unarmed black person in a situation where nobody had been shot riddled in the back with police bullets? Why it's a problem - Police in the Blake situation may have genuinely feared for their lives which might legally get them acquitted. But why were they more afraid of an unarmed black guy where there was no gunfire or people that had been shot than they were of a person carrying an assault rifle on the scene where multiple people had been shot and there was gunfire? This doesn't address the poor technique of police arresting Blake etc. I'm just trying to point out that fear of one suspect and not another is at the heart of the bigger problem IMHO.
We aren't going to try this case here, but after the first shot was the crowd within their rights to make a citizen's arrest? Were they reasonable people in fear? The defendant was retreating but he was still armed and threatening. (sadly) this would be an interesting trial, perhaps with a Supreme Court ruling on 'Stand Your Ground'. I assume the money on the right will come pouring in to the defendants defense fund, but it seems like the best route would be to plead out to 10 years.
There is no video evidence of people shooting at him,the reporter that was an eye witness said no one shot at him. Stop lying.
[/QUOTE] I guess my quibble here is that people keep stating "he carried a weapon over state lines" like that's illegal. We'll have to see how this all plays out in court .... The big question is was he in violation of that misdemeanor charge of minor in possession (some exceptions) and how does that affect his claiming self defense in relation to the felony charges because in all three cases , I see the other people as the aggressors with him fleeing their advances until he can no longer do so. He was definitely a dumbass for being there. Those he shot were definitely dumbasses too ...
From the video it was clear Rittenhouse was fleeing from a crime and him being charged the police believe so as well.
I'm not. Part of what Biden is running on is the ability to unite. Could be an attempt to heal division and move on.
Why is Murder an Appropriate Response to property damage but Property damage isn't an appropriate response to murder? Rocket River
To respond to yourself and @CometsWin I understand and that's why I said "I admit I laughed." I've also been consistent calling out Rittenhouse as an idiot who should have the book thrown out him.. I've also said there is something seriously wrong with Kenosha PD. Further since Cometswin is referencing the other thread I will call out both this idiot 17 year old and also call out the people who broke into Chipotle on Nicollet Ave and others who looted downtown Minneapolis over a false story.. Both groups are damaging our society and making it much harder to come to peace and unity.
Even accepting what Rittenhouse and compatriots were doing at face value it is still very stupid what he did and tragically ended up with him taking a life when he shouldn't have been there at all. In that case they should be subject to the same laws. There was a curfew in Kenosha. Why didn't the LE enforce that curfew on Rittenhouse and his group also? Why did they give them water and wave them thru?
Pandemic limited his ability to shoot up schools. . .so he and his accomplice mom went and found him other murder locations The fact that the getaway driver is not in jail infuriates me Rocket River
We established way back that it is illegal for a minor to cross State lines with a weapon. Socks n' Crocs was 17. The Mom should be arrested soon.
Neither are. This is a point I've been making for awhile. We need accountability for LE and we need to address systemic racism that is still going. At the same time the looting and arson isn't helping things and is actually making it harder to resolve this issue. Many have correctly pointed out the current cycle of LE killing of unarmed black men isn't new. Neither is rioting that has destroyed a lot of property. in 1968 Watts and Detroit burned. 25 years later South Central and much of LA along with several cities burned. 5 years ago Ferguson burned.. Is Detroit, Watts, South Central or Ferguson any better? Did those things actually improve race relations and make LE more accountable? We wouldn't be having this discussion if it did. Again in the same speech that MLK said that "riots are the language of the unheard he said: "Let me say as I've always said, and I will always continue to say, that riots are socially destructive and self-defeating. I'm still convinced that nonviolence is the most potent weapon available to oppressed people in their struggle for freedom and justice. I feel that violence will only create more social problems than they will solve. That in a real sense it is impracticable for the Negro to even think of mounting a violent revolution in the United States. So I will continue to condemn riots, and continue to say to my brothers and sisters that this is not the way. And continue to affirm that there is another way." He understood that there was good reason for legitimate anger and causes to the riots but he also understood that rather than help things they were self-defeating. What MLK saw first hand though was how the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the March on Selma, and other actions actually led to change.
uh, yes? One other point of discussion: The State will probably use his social media posts against him to establish state of mind, whether he went to Kenosha with intent.
