Occam's Razor says Fertitta lowballed D'Antoni, and D'Antoni decided, OK, I'll go on the market and you'll have pay me or lose me. This report looks like part of the game. But it's not a game if Fertitta doesn't budge.
good point regarding griffin and atkinson. I just don't see Atkinson as a fit on a veteran team. I could be wrong. also he's the biggest or second biggest name on the market (he and Lue). and tilman isn't going to get into any bidding wars. he's more likely to ask morey to find a moreyball coach, undervalued and will outperform his contract. that's why I like Silas. strong candidate, but off the radar to an extent.
rockets have done better under morey than 90% of NBA teams over his tenure. I wouldn't be so quick to become the next kings, Knicks, magic, hawks, suns, hornets, bulls, Cavs, pistons, pacers, grizzlies, wolves, pelicans, wizards, etc...
Silas is a strong possibility. He interviewed very well with the Rockets and was the top choice of Daryl Morey last time. He is bright, works hard and commands respect... he also has worked for the coach and organization Daryl Morey thinks very highly of (Carlisle/Mavericks).
I 100% believe MDA will be the HC of the Pacers next season. I think Tilman is as tired as we fans are of watching MDA fail in the PO bc of his inability to expand his rotation and make in game adjustments. I also remember reading somewhere that MDA wasn’t even DM’s choice but more so of the previous owner (Les Alexander), who wanted a big name coach. So with that said I’m sure MDA is finally gone but who do we even consider? You also have to wonder if the next coach will continue this small ball lineup or will he push for a big that extends the floor. I’ve made a list of coaches who have been linked to Houston or are available, let me know everyone’s thoughts. - Tyron Lue - Stephen Silas - JVG - Alvin Gentry - Lionel Hollins - Kenny Atkinson - Mark Jackson - Jason Kidd - Sam Cassell
Cassell Obviously a GUARD FRIENDLY coach Last time we had a Rockets legend as a coach, we won 2 titles
True. Its too bad the NBA don't have specialist coaches in game time who has the final say on things like rotations, time outs, and minute management. Dantoni is decent at getting a system in place but it doesn't seem like he has a feel for the other things.
I think that is the biggest strike against Silas. At the end of the day if Silas stands out as the best, I think they would overlook his lack of experience.
Silas would be a fantastic hire imo. I hope we go with a new coach. The only existing head coaches I'd want are Pops, Carlisle, Stevens, Spo or Bud. Frankly, given what stage of Harden's career we're at, I would start this summer by offering every one of those guys a blank cheque. Other than that, Silas and Udoka are the most interesting options on the market. A more data-based Spurs system might be the ultimate system. Udoka has championship experience. I wanna say the Sixers will certainly promote him to head coach, but Brand is pretty dumb, and the owner is even dumber if he doesn't fire Brand right away. He pulled a max offer because Butler took meetings with other teams. What an idiot. Re-sign your best player at any cost you idiot. At least they fired the coach. They would be Bucks-like right now if Hinkie wasn't fired, I am 100% certain.
I just want Jeff Van Gundy and Kenny Smith and Hakeem Olajuwon to be part of the coaching staff with either of them the head coach. Y’all think this could be a possibility?
Not sure what number MDA's camp originally had in mind. But it could have been lower than his actual market value. Now that renew has dragged on and went public, MDA will know for sure; with Pacers and others. Rockets and Pacers have different timelines. If Pacers competitively lose a 1st round, and at same time their stars blossom into Regular season studs; prime time TV slots, move more merch, more interest in the local Midwest TV market. They don't have to win 'ship for the Pacers owner to consider that a win.
Also, Silas is going to be a lot CHEAPER for #Tilman as opposed to bigger name coaches like Joerger, Lue, Atkinson etc. Saw a report Lue wants 7M per year. LOL, Tilly not going to pay that. If the Rockets got Silas, then I would also want to know what assistants would be put with him.
Harden has trust in Morey and if Morey is a Silas fan than Harden has to trust Morey's judgement. Also, the assistants that surround Silas could be a factor.
Good points. Silas was being sold to Alexander over MDA with the idea of bringing in Lionel Hollins as well... so I am sure the idea would be to bring a strong staff too. My guess is Morey would try to sell the money saved on Silas could go towards assistants.
