It’s not a terrible idea but I personally would rather play Toro and Ty Jones.

Agree completely on almost all points, Nook. Taylor Jones we may have something, I like his pitch selection thus far, albeit VERY tiny sample size. Kinda a nitpick here but I'd like a lefty 1B option. Toro doesn't impress me, not with his defense, instincts, and plate discipline. Seems like another Tyler White (power potential and occasional dingers but bad AVG and defense). If I'm wrong and he's a regular and star for us I'll happily eat my words but I don't see it.

    Astros get:
    RHP Brad Keller (3 yrs)
    1B Ryan O'Hearn (4 yrs)

    Royals get:
    RHP Bryan Abreu
    RHP Brandon Bielak
    OF Chas McCormick
    PTBNL

Keller has 3 years (after this year) remaining and is doing well. A poor man's Spencer Turnbull, I guess. The spin and velo are not as high, but still something for Strom to work with to improve.
O'Hearn appears to be blocked by McBroom and Dozier but has potential, solid average and good pop.

Royals get two upside arms in Abreu and Bielak. McCormick will become Rule 5 eligible and doesn't seem to have a path here. But he can potentially find room in KC.

I bet they can keep both Yuli and Brantley if they want too.

What about a trade for Mike Yastremski and Kevin Gausman?

Mike is 30 and is not in the long term rebuild plans. By the time the Giants can compete he will be at least 35 yrs old. And at CF thats not a good number.
Could be an attractive target under the radar move that could make the offense pretty stout for acouple years.
You would then need to find a suitor for Reddick. Cuz I believe Tcker needs to start again every day

I know we have internal options, but the Pirates stink and Josh Bell does not. Just seems like a luxury/move that we can’t afford or rationalize right now...but Bell in HOU could be a lot of fun. Would likely be the end of Yuli, but I don’t think we’ll be able to afford him on the market sans him taking less to be here.

Would love to have him long term. Think he is just having a down year. That would make it where you could capitalize on Yuli trades. We could get a decent prospect or two from the braves for yuli

What about Zach Plesac from Cleveland? He seems to be the odd man out and his trade value might be lower due to the whole breaking protocol while on the road.

    Astros: Zach Plesac

Cleveland: Josh Reddick (Astros eat most of remaining salary), Taylor Jones, Cy Sneed

Anything from Cleveland might be way over priced especially those two SPs.
Mostlikly want a Whitley and then some for either one of them

I'd give up Whitley for Plesac. Plesac will be controlled for 5 postseasons and is already a known. Whitley has had one red flag after another, I've lost faith in him and really soured on him. I'd do that trade as long as there wasn't much else involved.

I probably would not do that deal although I would certainly consider it. Plesac isn’t exactly a proven ace or anything; he has roughly a season’s worth of starts in the majors and has posted 1.9 fWAR in that time. He’s a good young starter but unless the deeper analysis points to expected improvement I wouldn’t count on him to be more than a decent #3. For now I just see Whitley’s upside as too high to give up for that. But it’s close.

I just read a predictable deadline additions thread that was for what teams need what.
They think Josh Bell, Mike Yestremski and Sean Doolittle would be the three most likely targets at the deadline. Also mentioned if any of the above fall threw next in line would be Andrelton Simmons, Trevor Rosnthal and Solar

Even given Whitley's numerous struggles though? I don't know how many more chances the guy needs.

He's what, 22? Talent gets many more chances.

Don't like Plesac's mechanics. He also has some of that Devenski fall way off the mound towards first base thing going on.

I don't think the Indians would do that deal currently considering the last thing we heard on Whitley is something something arm discomfort.

He's 22. Should the Astros have cut bait on Valdez, Urquidy, Javier, and Paredes last year, and never acquired Blake Taylor because they were 22 or older last year?

Whitley won’t even be Rule 5 eligible until this December. Of course he still gets chances. Hell, he can be optioned until 2023.

Exactly, cut them all lol. Didn't know he was 22 though. I don't have high hopes for him, but at the same time he's young.

    Our offense is set .

idk if we can acquire enough pitching to be an actual front runner .

verlander still kinda up in the air ?

Grienke looking great . You gotta figure between Framber , lance , Urquidy , and Javier that you can piece together a good game 3 tandem .

the clearest need is bullpen help . Lance could move , but then you’d still wanna get another guy capable of going 2 innings sometimes .

    but I mean seriously

What’s the batting order even ?

    Springer
    Tucker
    Bregman
    Correa
    Brantley
    Yuli
    Reddick
    Maldonado
    Altuve

Rotate based on who’s hot ?
Go traditional with altuve in 2 and madly at 9 and bat tucker and Reddick back to back (not saying that’s bad )

it’s just stacked . No one on offense outside of Yordan is out for the season. Hopefully Bregman and springer are OK and altuve can somewhat return to form .

Idk what you do about the future . Tucker is making his case . I like Brantley springer and Reddick to a lesser extent . Do we count on Yordan in the future ?he certainly made a case last year .

I know FA is coming up soon for several key guys . Tough decisions and unknowns . The virus might depress contract values and the Astros might be able to get some unexpected bargains , I’m hopeful .

organizationally , we are going to be at a disadvantage without draft money and picks . Our farm was already used over the last few seasons to get ML talent . But I don’t know what market value is going to be this year . Teams are all trying to figure the funky stuff out and I bet you see caution .

Our Offense is not set. Js. Yuli, Springer, Brantley and Reddick all FA.
We should not over pay for any of them at all. Tuckers spot is secure. Reddick is not worth the money and should be traded this Deadline. Brantley is fine Springer I would trade him but alot won't thinking he is the God of CF. But my problem is if you do he needs to go to a Corner spot. Cf is a young man's game. I honestly think he wants to go and get away from this cheating scandal and will sign a high deal and get paid. YULI is just to old to extend to the money and years he may get on the open market. If you add a Josh Bell I would consider moving Yuli to the Braves and see of we can net some of those prospects.
