Nobody knew what was going on at the time. The official reason wasn’t know until well after they formally canceled it. Players left the floor and everyone was confused and told to exit
Let it shut down its all crap anyways with Lebron bspn, typical bs. Get all lifes matter league, all people can play. Even better make it where you have to hire certain amount of every race even asians.
i feel like a week would be good to make your point (need more than a day) but emotions are high and they might just stop. if they leave the bubble, it's over. maybe they'll leave the bubble so they can't change their mind and come back. but no shame if they keep playing. i voted for a week. they all went through a lot of trouble to make this happen. not that i can really feel bad for a guy who screws over the rockets and represents billionaires, but i would kinda feel bad for silver to go through all this and then it ends a week into the playoffs. but hey, some things are more important.
I think the very specific request the Bucks made is a tell at least the Bucks and probably other contenders want to come back and finish it out. That being said you can just tell many players are just over it with the bubble and probably just want to be with their families and that might out weight what the contenders want if Wisconsin gets its act together. The bubble was very well put together but you get the feeling like we are probably done with NBA for some time. The NFL is going to be the big controversy we can already see coming with those jerk off owners who don’t get it and their crazy fans. That is a powder keg ready to explode right there and it’s going to upset a lot of people which is probably a good thing.
For me, it depends on the word 'respect'. If they feel this is what they should do, I do respect that. But, as a fan, I'm also likely to decide to watch them less later on, too. Not really because I'm upset with their decision...but because that then leads to me making decisions as well. If I can do without the NBA now...then I'll find a replacement. I won't need or even want to watch the NBA as much. I probably still will, be even now its not must see TV for me anymore. Too many other things have already happened to detract from that. I suspect NBA viewership will go down...and with it revenues, and with that, salaries. And, by the way, with that...their platform for speaking out. Ask baseball. They struck for different reasons, but the point is the fans did not come back, at least not for many years. Baseball went from America's pasttime, to striving to get even with the NHL. Some fans would support them on this (pretty much everybody was against the strike), but some fans won't. There were already fans leaving, this will just push that farther. And will it actually achieve any difference? I doubt it. If they were playing, they'd have a platform. If they're not playing, they don't. I'm not particularly interested in what some rich jock I've never met has to say. The good news is they likely all go play in China, where, you know, issues like this don't happen.
I initially thought they'd be back tomorrow and am selfishly still hoping as much ( i need my nba fix!) But now, I'm thinking it might take up to a week before we see basketball again.
I think that standing against injustice is more important than hoops (was really looking forward to the game though)....who knows. They may play if some decision is made regarding the 7 (7!) Shots fired...that's the best case scenario..
A lot of the players grew up in inner cities and still have ties there. I don’t think this is just being emotional on their part.
The players are sick of the bubble... they've had enough of isolation, and the news of Kenosha was the impetus they needed to light the fuze that will blow the powder keg of the NBA Bubble Tournament. And that's all fine I suppose, this is their forum... but nothing comes without a cost. Whatever $$$ the players stood to make in the playoffs should go directly to the organizations who should stand to benefit from this sort of consciousness-raising exercise... no more half-measures, there needs to be steak behind the sizzle. And I hope the players, the NBAPA, the owners and the league come to a consensus such as this.
Sportscenter took it off. Someone probably told them to remove it. It’s still on his IG story. he posted “boycotted not postponed”
This is a matter of principles AND money. Guys on max contracts with fat endorsements like CP3 and Harden can easily pack it up and go home. If there is a possibility that salaries will be prorated (not sure how the CBA addresses work stoppage), players on a minimum, young players just starting, may very feel insecure about any work stoppage.
I understand where you’re coming from but I’ve been talking about the rockets everyday of my life since I was 10, I’ll be 37 next month. Hakeem could come **** in my breakfast every morning and it wouldn’t change my love for the rockets and desire to watch them play. I’m proud of these guys for sticking up for what’s right. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t get to see them again this year but I’ll never stop watching. It’s too much a part of who I am.
