Angels are not making the playoffs. No one wants a SS rental. I could see Astros doing it as a target of opportunity (i.e., Angels called them) if Angels are basically giving him away.
Here's an idea: White Sox are surprise contenders, try and go after Andrew Vaughn? I know it's a dream. ReHOUnited with college teammate Kory Lee, he'd love it, Love Greinke but if we can get 6 years of Vaughn for less how can you say no. Starting pitching is a big need for the South Side. Keuchel and Giolito are a good 1-2 punch, Cease is a solid 3/4, but Greinke could make them the class of the Central (only 2 GB). Astros get: 1B Andrew Vaughn RHP Jimmy Lambert (16th in system, HIGH spin rates!!!!) Maybe add a PTBNL White Sox get: RHP Zack Greinke The Sox get 2 playoff runs from Greinke, and are NOT on his no-trade list. Just a thought if we do sell HIGHLY unlikely, but this is the type of prospect we'd need to aim for, restock the system and have some youngsters to keep building around.
I would be looking at Andrew Dalquist, Micheal Kopach and Tyler Johnson. They would be getting Grienke for atleast 2 yrs. So they would have to pay a premium.
Last season the Astros were rumored to be interested in Robbie Ray. Are they still interested even though he's a free agent after this season? He's also sucking. Can Strom fix him? Asking price might be low now that he sucks. Might be worth it to buy low on him. Then again, starting pitchers might be in demand, even though he's sucking, teams might be interested in him because of his past.
Robbie Ray looks lost. Someone will over pay him. The Diamondbacks are a very dumb club. Wanting to cut payroll but offer the house to MadBum. What a clueless organization
Hypothetical deadline deal: Correa, Whitley, Toro for Edwin Diaz, Michael Conforto, and Jeff McNeil. Bielak and Mayfield for Bundy and Andrelton Simmons CF Springer DH/Lf/3B McNeil 2B Altuve 3B-Bregman/Tucker-LF LF/DH Brantley/Tucker 1B-Yuli RF- Conforto/Tucker SS- Simmons C- Maldonado Greinke, Javier, Bundy, Valdez, McCullers Hopefully verlander back for playoffs. Bullpen backend- Taylor, Paredes, Pressly, Diaz This is based off of the Simmons info. Speculation about a potential correa deal. After the season you could move breg to short and McNeil settles in at 3B.
Would be a great deal i think the Angels would want more and it would very much depend on what the Mets want. McNeil was there pride and joy. Would do both deals in a heart beat. I like conforto. Would also do a small deal to aquire Bell from the Pirates have a entirely new team in 2021. You could also get another deal going after that for Yuli and get a much needed SP or RP
The Mets deal seems fair to me but I think Bundy will fetch more since he has another year of control. Throw in Bryan Abreu and it seems right to me. Trading Correa makes Springer affordable and leaves the 2021 roster looking like this: CF Springer 3B McNeil SS Bregman DH Alvarez LF Conforto RF Tucker 2B Altuve 1B Diaz C Maldonado Bench: Garneau, Straw, Jones, Stubbs Rotation: Greinke, Verlander, Bundy, Valdez, Javier Bullpen: Urquidy, Pruitt, Devenski, Smith, Paredes, Taylor, McCullers, Diaz Of course, I don’t know why the Mets would do that deal; adding Correa is a win-now move which makes trading away McNeil, Diaz, and Conforto not make any sense.
Agree. It's a business, and money talks. Somebody will offer him a lot of money. It's just how it is. Always happens. I advocate taking a "buy and sell" approach: Extend the window while not waving the white flag. If we do get offers for, say, Springer, and it's REALLY good, you have to listen. Would like to move Whitley. Too many red flags, was supposed to have at least made his MLB debut by now. Instead, 3 wasted seasons due to injury and/or suspension. Either for a young, proven, controllable arm who's good, or for multiple high prospects.
All things being equal I want Houston to be very picky about which moves they make this year. They need to let their farm recover yet they are still in their competitive window. Their lineup is still really deep with the emergence of Tucker and they have uncovered 3-4 really good pitchers. Next season they will get a bunch of guys back and will have as good a team as anybody (assuming Verlander is healthy). They really don’t have any glaring needs.
This. Not even opposed to making a few "seller" moves. I'm sorry, but this year's WS just doesn't mean as much to me, and it won't to the owners, because of the financial side. I can see owners being not as excited because there's no benefit that comes with hosting postseason games and selling tickets to the games. Our farm system is dry as f*** and our window could close soon. Need to keep it open as long as possible. We have the 2nd lowest farm in the big leagues, the 4th highest payroll, and our lone prospect in the top 100 is full of red flags.
While I agree this season doesn't mean that much to me I am extremely happy with how our young players have stepped up. Being able to pencil in Tucker, Framber, Javier, Taylor, Paredes, etc on the roster going forward is what we needed to extend the window. Prospect rankings aren't everything and the Astros are showing that right now. When Verlander went down I was extremely pessimistic and thought trading some of our pending free agents might be a good move. At this point, I'm fine rolling with what we have and trying to resign whomever the Astros can with Springer/Brantley/Yuli in the offseason.
I'm still happy about our youngsters' development, of course. Just believe, you can never have too much depth. Also helps for making trades, you need trade chips. This offseason will be very interesting. Lots of tough moves to make. Would prefer to resign Brantley (assuming he's healthy again) more than Springer/Gurriel bc of the controversies. I know, the latter two have more sentimental value. But I really do care about restoring as much of our image and reputation. I know some are NEVER going to forgive us and forever act as if we're the only one to do it, and also act as if its as morally reprehensible as murder, terrorism, etc. but we should definitely forgive, and care about restoring trust.
