Some textual evidence from the essay might help you make whatever point it is you're trying to make here, but your "as though prior to 2016 the Right and the Left were having salon discussions and the GOP was Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition" is clearly YOUR invention, not the author's. have NO idea how this question follows from anything.
