Found this helpful in understanding the hype around FSLY and why it's different from a traditional CDN: https://hhhypergrowth.com/what-are-edge-networks/ Cloud/SaaS is exciting due to their speed in scaling. Anyone have other cloud/SaaS to recommend? I tried to look for a good ETF, but they tend to be skewed to the bigger/slower incumbents. Currently looking at: OKTA ESTC NET AYX FSLY Holding DDOG, CRWD
@adoo @Dr of Dunk You may like this podcast/interview with Marvell. Focus on enabling the handling of data (5g, data processors, data storage controllers, IOT including automotive), and analysts at the end suggested the company they will be growing at the expense of Broadcom. Their new custom asic biz may take a year before it starts impacting the bottomline though.
Thanks. If it's what I think it is, I read an article about this back in June or July when Marvell announced it, and it was one of the reasons I bought into it. I didn't know about it taking a year to reap rewards, though. lol. This custom ASIC business may just be a part of their acquisition of Avera a while back, but I'm not sure. Avera used to be a division of Globalfoundries and did custom ASIC design for them (before that, they were a part of IBM, I believe). They were spun off from Globalfoundries and Marvell gobbled them up. I'll watch the video later tonight.
We used Okta at my previous company, that's all I know. As for companies, cloud companies had a massive run-up for months, but then many leveled off within the past couple of months. FSLY hit a brief peak of $120 before giving up gains and going down to around $80. One of the reasons, as I stated before, may be because of the Microsoft potential acquisition of TikTok. MSFT has their own Azure CDN. Whether it's a 1:1 replacement or as good as FSLY's, I don't know -- I don't know the industry that well. I remember when AKAM was a/the big name in this area, but I don't hear much about them nowadays. The only "cloud" ETF that I've been looking at recently has been CLOU. It's more of a mix of cloud, cloud-based security, etc. companies. Another one is SKYY, but they're investing in everything from AMZN to VMW to FSLY to CTL (that dividend... if it's bottomed and they keep it - nice... lol). That one seems like more of an investment in cloud and cloud-related infrastructure. WCLD is another one that has FSLY as a larger holding.
as per the MRVL evangelist, it'll take ~ a yr to see pay dirt. meanwhile, as per my amateur eyes, this sure looks like a head-n-shoulder formation, w more declines to come
Yup, even I'm worried about them now, but I'll wait and see what it does for the next couple of weeks (unless it tanks). I'm hoping the entire sector is taking somewhat of a breather. MRVL's reliance on China business is the main reason I'm worried about this one -- even moreso than others.
I think it's a decent bet. It's almost like the opposite of a bank - it thrives on low interest rates, enticing people to refinance on its platform. I don't think there's another listed company that it neatly compares to, hence the uncertainty over how to price it and the current volatility. If it drops back to IPO price I may take another look. Biggest risk seems to be interest rate hikes which look very unlikely atm. Looks like you got in at a good price.
not anymore because of this https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ongoing-investigation-alert-schall-law-202000460.html The Schall Law Firm, a national shareholder rights litigation firm, announces that it is investigating claims on behalf of investors of Fastly, Inc. ("Fastly" or "the Company") (NYSE:FSLY) for violations of the securities laws. The investigation focuses on whether the Company issued false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose information pertinent to investors.
Do a google news search of schall... they seem to be involved in LOTS of these types of suits, including intel over past fwd looking statements. I wouldn't give it any weight. edit: i decided to start a position in cloudflare over FSLY tho; cloudflare's products seems diversified with more emphasis on security.
yip, ambulance chasers. but my intent was to make fsly a momentum trade. this frivolous suit just took the air outta that momentum. as an alternative, i bought Nov CALLs in this 700-lb gorilla; a channel play as well as MACD crossover
Up 12% today despite seemingly no news. Happy, but also nervous when I don't know the reason for the move.
fwiw AKAM will report on the last Tues of Oct, just like AMD AKAM had a disappointing ERS in Jul, the fallout from COVID19; no sporting events to be broadcast / stream since July/ Aug, most professional sporting events (NBA, baseball, hockey in the US, soccer overseas) have been re-open ESPN, TNT and their broadcasting counterparts overseas use AKAM technology to broadcast/stream sporting events before the next ERS, we'd have watched several sporting championshipsr d on TV or other devise already.
lol. A lot of these SPACs and oddball stocks went up for inexplicable reasons sometimes. FMCI went up around noon for some reason -- I still don't know why. They announced a new CFO in the morning, but the stock popped hours later. SHLL (Tortoise Acquisition Group) is up something like 35% today. No idea. I do know that Tortoise Acquisition Corp II announced a new SPAC, though. Ticker symbol will be SNPR.
Just announced the following replacements on the Dow Jones Industrial Average : CRM replacing XOM AMGN replacing PFE HON replacing RTX *EDIT* : oops, got Raytheon's ticker symbol wrong. Duh.
entering the dow it was just announced, after market close, that CRM and 2 others will be added to the DOW replacing such oldies as Xom, Rtn, etc. in after mkt trading, CRM is up ~ 8+ points. just my luck, i had made an earnings play on CRM, who reports tomorrow. exited my CALLs last Thu, w a nice profit, gonna miss the BIG pop tomorror
Some of you expressed some interest in cloud-related stocks, so this may be of interest : Snowflake files for IPO, taking on Amazon and Microsoft cloud database businesses https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/24/snowflake-files-s-1-for-ipo.html
