I have not been a big fan of Joe Biden due to his lengthy record of being consistently wrong on all all the major issues: NAFTA, bankruptcy, consumer issues, credit cards, healthcare, social security, a cheerleading for the Iraq War, a prime mover for mass encarceration etc.

Nevertheless I though Biden's speech was excellent and extremely effective for the one goal I trust him to be very committed to--defeating Trump, which I want badly. I was shocked at how well he delivered the speech given many of his other performances throughout the campaign. I much preferred Joe's passion to the cool professorial tone of Obama, for instance. Cautiously optimistic that since Joe has always gone with the flow he and the folks around him might make an actual progressive turn this time , instead of the traditional Democratic tactic of talking progressive during the campaign to turnout the base and then legislating mainly for the donor class and the 10% that have 92% of all stocks.

Ratings still mainly refer to TV ratings. Published ratings very rarely include streamers and publishers don’t have access to most streaming numbers due to privacy concerns.

We aren't referring to competition. We are calling out your concern trolling.

You are concern trolling. It's obvious. Why even keep doing this?

I think @B-Bob may have been referring to this story about viewership:

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...line-viewership-more-than-doubles/5603404002/

But digital viewing was up dramatically. T.J. Ducklo, a national spokesman for presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden's campaign, tweeted that 28.9 million Americans tuned in the convention either by television or digitally Monday and "shattered" the previous record for digitally streaming video with 10.2 million viewers.

interesting. I’d say they’re increasingly useless then, or at least have to be given uncertainties of about 50% or even more, depending on the type of content and target audience.

    Did you read the op-Ed?

Opinions aren’t facts and the author states several opinions as though they were facts so his fact checking amounts to that Michell Obama expresses a different opinion than I do.

Also if I can fact check the “fact checker” he cites the frequent mistaken trope that Obama gave Iran a bunch of money. Obama didn’t give them any money. That money was money that released from frozen Iranian bank accounts. It never was Obama or the US’s money to give.

Yes. It was a very sloppy article and actually dishonest in its representation.

I will like any fact check if it is accurate. Does your earlier post mean that you aren't concerned about accuracy in reporting and fact checks? I haven' read this one so I don't know.

Okay, I just read it. He's definitely wrong about some things in there. They are matters that we've all gone over on these boards before.

I am okay if he wants to add in the context of Trump saying that neo-Nazis were wrong and he was against them. But he was wrong in claiming Trump wasn't prompted to say it. He was asked to comment about it many times before this speech. So Trump was absolutely prompted.

Much of what Adams discusses is his opinion about the 'Fine People' argument being a hoax. It wasn't. As we've discussed here on these boards. The rally was set up by a white supremacist group. So the people marching with them were attending a ranch organized by white supremacists. Adams doesn't mention this. Furthermore the neo-Nazis and organizers were chanting "Jews will not replace us..." Even people who somehow were unaware of the neo-Nazis and white supremacists that organized it would have known at that point who they were mixed up with. 'Fine people' would have left at that moment. So Trump was wrong to suggest that there were fine people on that side. And calling Trump out for that wasn't a hoax.

    Adams was wrong.

remember what Mary Hesse said: "There are no bare and uninterpreted facts; all facts, whether experimental or historical, are interpreted in the light of some theory." ;)

I went back and edited my post after reading the Dilbert creator's article.

As far as Hesse's quote, shes wrong. If for instance, Bush increased aid to Africa to help in the aids battle which he did that is a fact. If they said he increased it 10-fold that is inacurate and can be fact checked. The amount of increase is indeed bare and uninterpreted.

And Berkeley said "Few men think but all have opinions." and "Truth is the cry of all but the game of the few."

I await seeing the latest Federalist op-ed has to say about the matter.

Michelle Obama won the Democratic convention

No speaker at the Democratic National Convention came close to generating as much online enthusiasm as Michelle Obama, according to NewsWhip data shared exclusively with Axios.

Why it matters: By these measures, the most effective messenger in the Democratic Party is not even a politician.

By the numbers: Among the 100 most viral stories about DNC topics this past week, there were 7.56 million social media interactions (likes, comments, shares) on stories about Michelle Obama's speech.
    • That's 5x more than the estimated total for the next closest person — her husband.
    • Joe Biden, the presidential nominee and the main focus of the convention, came in third.
Between the lines: Many of the best-performing articles around Michelle Obama called for readers to watch or read the full speech, framed neutrally.
    • Other top items were headlined around memorable lines from her speech — "in over his head," "the wrong president for our country," and "it is what it is."
    • On the right, the most traction for stories about her speech came around the Associated Press fact-checking her claim that the Trump administration put kids in cages. (It concluded that while the Trump administration did own the policy of separating families, the reference to "cages" was misleading.)
The details: Barack Obama had the second-most interactions, followed by Biden and then President Trump.
    • Kamala Harris, the vice presidential nominee and the other subject of praise during the week, was far down on the list, with only one story in the top 100.
    • The data captured all of the social media interactions as of Friday morning — including stories about Biden and Harris's acceptance speeches.
    • For Wednesday and Thursday's articles, NewsWhip's predicted interactions account for where the stories could be expected to wind up, factoring in whether they were gaining or losing traction as of Friday morning.
While left-leaning audiences ate up stories about the Obamas — as well as Republicans who have embraced Biden, like Cindy McCain and John Kasich — conservative audiences fixated on a handful of storylines that would be invisible to many people with liberal feeds.
    • The top storyline was the presence of undocumented immigrants in the convention program — one of whom expressed a desire for health care access.
    • Another top theme on the right was pillorying the 42nd president: "Bill Clinton Lectures Donald Trump About His Conduct In ‘The Oval Office’ During DNC Convention Speech" (Daily Wire) and "Man Who Had Oval Office Affair with Intern Condemns Trump's Use of Oval Office" (Western Journal).
    • Right-wing publications also leaned into videos of caucus meetings at the convention that showed the Pledge of Allegiance being recited without "under God."
