    Trump is a decent public speaker and yet also a garbage president. Biden is the leader and that’s what I got from the DNC.

    She later said that it was just politics. Do you believe Biden to be a racist or incapable as compared to the man he is challenging? What's the point of these gotcha tweets - it just proves Obama right. That Trump is a clown that only wants attention and doesn't care to take democracy and the office seriously.

    I like the part where they denounced the riots in our major cities.

    Oh wait, they didn't mention them at all.

    Why should they denounce the riots? People are rioting and are upset for a reason. The concern is the causes of the riots.

    I cannot speak for the riots in Portland. I can speak quite a bit about what is happening in Chicago and why it is happening.

    They aren't necessarily in favor of the riots either........

    The concern shouldn't be the riots, it should be why rioting is happening in the first place.

    I cannot speak for Portland........ I can tell you that in Chicago there is rioting because of the situation the poor black people find themselves living in.

    It is very easy for you and I as white men that do not live in poverty to dismiss it........ but I have lived in those communities, I worked as a prosecutor in those neighborhoods and have spent a lot of time there. It is a very complicated issue but as one person that is deeply involved in the community said in an email;

    "What the hell are you all going to do? They already [are] black in a place where that is a bad thing. They [are] already poor and surrounded by violence. Their fathers and uncles and brothers are already locked up or dead. There are [no] jobs. School is more dangerous than staying home. Most expect to be dead or in prison by twenty five. The world they see around isn't the world they live in. So what [are] you going to do? Take away their birthday? They don't care about property damage on the Magnificent Mile. They don't care about police and they don't care what you think about it either. No one outside cares about them inside."

    I was a very strong law and order person. It was my job, and I was good at it. I put a lot of gang members and criminals in prison for a long time. However, eventually I learned what almost everyone involved learns; we have only made it worse. When you start arresting 15-16 year old kids as gang leaders and middle level drug dealers, there is a real problem. The people that live in these neighborhoods and grew up in these neighborhoods have almost no chance of escaping poverty and entering the middle class. They are treated like caged animals.

    I don't think you can convince @Os Trigonum with appeal to empathy and emotion. He's checked out of this subforum and is pretty much on full troll mode.

    What I find most concerning about this country, especially since 9-11 and now COVID?

    I used to think it was a lack of community or lack or common agreed upon values.....

    But really what it is, is a complete lack or empathy.

    I do not like discussing it out of pride, but the USA right now lacks empathy for those outside it's borders and those inside it's borders.
