Contractors. Nah. A contractor is someone who works at Northrop Grumman with a 200 grand a year contract salary.

What Uber and Lyft does is basically justify near slave wage labor by hand-waving "it's a contract job". Their entire business model is based on barely paying their drivers.

If your "contract" job doesn't provide you a living wage, it ain't a job, its just a few steps removed from slave labor.

Well if they both shut down, that's going to be chaos because certain people depend on rideshares to get places.
you are forcing people to walk or ride bikes!

Uber and Lyft have been ******** on their workers by misclassifying them. Why else would they be eligible for unemployment insurance? The game is rigged and these companies are still taking a loss.

But they aren't going to have any workers anymore in california if they shut down.
these people would have to go to another state if they want to do rideshare

There are supposedly other companies waiting in the wings don’t know how true that is. Problem is a lot of workers don’t have any power anymore. Make unions great again!

Lets face it, we all like Uber/Lyft because is a much cheaper alternative then a cab. Uber/Lyft don't pay their drivers, the consumer does not tip their Uber/Lyft drivers because they are cheap, and somehow Uber/Lyft get to be okay. It doesn't sound like a fair system to me, maybe we are the problem. We want competition (capitalism) but complain when wages aren't fair, yet we continue using the service because it saves us money.

it's not just saving money, it's more efficient, easier and you know that the driver is not screwing you over

It's great system. I'm all for increasing prices to get drivers a proper wage.

So what's wrong with California or municipalities like Austin pushing for the same benefits/liability coverage the country imposes on cab agencies?

Is it the government's job to impose a fairer position upon the exploited so that Uber/Lyft don't become duopolies and slowly water down everything the consumer initially took for granted?

You can quit any time, work whatever hours you want, and take a second job at the same time.

other then that, Its exactly like slave labor.

They are contractors like strippers are contractors
They are not official employees of a strip club
They pay a club tax for working
They can work as many hours as they want

we all love strippers right ?

No. your wrong. Its slave labor. That guy driving around with AC blasting and listening to music is basically Kunta Kinte. Its amazing how many people are voluntarily choosing to do this slave labor.
