You really have no clue. No one is denying that Covington's 3ball shooting has to improve. So does EGo's, PJ's, etc. We all understand this. But you fail to realize is that despite his bad shooting Covington still has GREAT positive value on the court. Why do you feel the need to keep doubling even tripling down on such a horrible take. It really is not as complicated as you are making this to be.
With all due respect, you understand what +7 means right?? It means EVERYTHING you have been arguing has been weighed, measured, and baked into that number, and Covington STILL comes out as a net positive when he's on the court for the Rockets. Do we want him to be a better shooter? Yes. But if he continues to be +7 in his minutes on the court in this series, then it really doesn't matter WHAT his shooting is, does it?? You're saying he won't be a +7 in the playoffs shooting the way he has, but then that's a different argument, isn't it?? If he's not +7 and he ends up being a net negative, then everything we've just discussed is a moot point.
I have no doubt that Covington is a positive on the court even when his shot isn't falling... Using the +/- to say we'll win even with him shooting bad is silly. What happens tonight when other players are struggling as well and we go down by 10 in the minutes him and Harden don't play? Steven Adams can't shoot 3's either, yes he's going to have a good plus minus. If Covington shot 25% on 3s for his career, we would not have traded for him. We need him to play well on both ends to fill his role (3&D). We can win if he's missing shots, but then everything else has to go right.
One of the reasons RoCo is a +7 is because he is so prolific in generating turnovers via blocks, deflections, steals, altering shots at rim. These turnovers help Rockets win.
Still want Capela? Jeff Green can do what he does. Not many players can do what Covington does for this team on defense...
I don't think that's a different argument, I think that's exactly what he's been saying this whole time.
one of these game's in the playoffs Robert will eventually step up just like Gordon today! just have a little faith.
I’m not worried about the first round of the playoffs Gave that up along time ago during the Harden Era (minus a crappy guard who’s currently playing china )
Covington is actually so key to our defense. He actually guards 5 positions. He needs to get confidence back to his shot though, he's worse than Tucker right now on offense. He needs to be at least Ariza level on offensw
Case in point today. He was a net negative today but Harden played well, we had other guys step up big time and OKC was off. We can’t rely on those factors every game. He really needs to shoot better moving forward.
It's very misleading to take a small sample size and try to extrapolate that. A 10 game span of him shooting 20% is pretty meaningless.
Yes you can’t hide your weaknesses in the later rounds like when we had Dwight, he definitely had his positives but was exploited in the later rounds that he had no offensive ability but as you know, first rounds aren’t a problem with Harden excluding the Lin year I think Covington can improve his shooting
Covington has been a net positive thus far despite his poor shooting, due to his incredible defense. If his shooting woes continue, then I'd imagine that defenses will adjust by doubling off of him. If he continues to whiff on these open looks, then he may become a net negative. But we're not at that point yet.
Is it possible to love Covington's energy on defense and expect him to play better offensively? Taken in a positive light - imagine how good we could be if he shot 40% from 3, as he has been able to do in the past.
