I don't believe this is true. In New York state, you must have a valid medical excuse to request an absentee ballot. This was the situation for the June primary. The state assembly and senate, however, have both passed a bill changing this requirement, and that bill sits on Cuomo's desk awaiting his signature: https://www.nysenate.gov//legislation/bills/2019/S8015
There are actually seven states that aren't allowing Covid-19 as an excuse to vote by mail. Most states already allowed no excuse absentee voting before Covid-19. Another 8 states made exceptions and are allowing anyone to vote by mail during Covid-19. https://www.nbcnews.com/specials/pl...ting-by-mail-early-in-person-voting-election/
I may be wrong. I had read an article awhile back talking about how only 5 states didn't allow absentee voting with Covid excuse, and saw updates later that 3 had changed it and one other was proposing change. I can't find the article now, but only know Texas voted the proposal down. I did look on New Yorks voting page and found this, but no update for the November election. Pursuant to Executive Order 202.15 issued April 9, 2020, voters may request and vote via an absentee ballot for any election held on or before June 23, 2020 due to the potential to contract the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). I just wish we had that option here.....ugh.
He's also trying to define Biden as a puppet of the Left. Besides Trump's rhetoric it still should be troubling that the race is as close as it is given how many things are going wrong for Trump. This election is really a symptom of how badly divided this country is.
I wouldn't anticipate fearing coronavirus but thankfully I leave my home county everyday so I should be eligible if I don't do early voting. I am sorry you don't qualify.
Agreed, he's appealing to the culture wars, which is making Biden a puppet of the left. Dems really need to get the messaging back to the Covid response.
Heard a little of Trump's speech in Mankato, MN. It's funny how the guy who can't pronounce "Minneapolis" is accusing Biden of not knowing anything about Minnesota.
Agree. The things I think the Biden campaign needs to focus on are: 1. COVID-19 2. The economy. 3. Corruption I don't think Biden can only run as Not Trump but this election more than most is a referendum on the incumbent. The less Biden talks about stuff like the "Green New Deal" and "Defund the Police" the better. Unfortunately for the Progressives I don't think running on terms like that will sway the electorate and will play right into the hands of the Trump campaign.
The fear is real, especially with no masks required inside where you vote. I just don't see this whole situation going away by then, especially with schools and colleges starting up next month.
In Trump's Mankato speech he said that the he was the only one that could build the greatest economy ever and that God is responsible for the downturn. God is testing him to see if he can do it again... One good thing is that he didn't visit the George Floyd Memorial. Apparently that was being considered during his stop in this state but Gov. Walz warned him against it.
There are so many words he can't pronounce. It's really strange. I'm wondering how he didn't learn how to pronounce so many words getting all that expensive private schooling. It's like he went to school in a low funded poorly run district where kids graduate barely able to read and write.
I don't remember the last time I accessed anywhere in Texas without a required mask. Are you in the northern part of the state?
I checked that in June--you still had to give one of something like 7 or 8 reasons for requesting the absentee ballot. Those reasons had to be actual medical conditions, you couldn't just be afraid of covid. That's what the bill on Cuomo's desk will allow if signed into law.
here's the page with current requirements: https://nyccfb.info/nyc-votes/how-to-vote/ You can also vote by absentee ballot if you are a registered voter and cannot make it to your polling site on Election Day because of your: occupation, business, studies, travel, imprisonment (other than a convicted felon), or illness, disability, hospitalization or residence in a long-term care facility. There are two ways to vote by absentee ballot: by mail or in-person. If you know you will need to vote by absentee ballot, you can download, complete, and submit an absentee ballot application to the BOE office in your borough at least seven days before the election. English | And on the application for absentee ballot it states that it is a felony to make a false statement in application: "Who may apply for an absentee ballot? Each person must apply for themselves. It is a felony to make a false statement in an application for an absentee ballot, to attempt to cast an illegal ballot, or to help anyone to cast an illegal ballot."
All depends on the messaging. I think Kamela Harris can really help on that front as she's really articulate. They can't play it safe like Clinton did in 2016 as Biden will have to offer something more. A Green New Deal doesn't have to be some progressive's wet dream, just depends on how its framed.
Regardless, there are a lot of states that you don't even need an excuse and a few that you can use Covid as an excuse. I'm just irritated that Texas doesn't, even though we have way more deaths and cases than most of the states right now, and one of the top rates of positivity.
It is ridiculous. In California we've been able to do it for no other reason than we'd like to do it. It hasn't been an issue. We can track our ballots and see that it has been registered.
