Dear black people, stop appropriating basketball.

It was invented by a white man.

There, see how dumb that sounds? But my post won't get any likes from the wikes cwowd. Shame on VICE for craving clicks over quality content.

I think a lot of this is like the early days of Rock n Roll when you had a lot of white musicians like Pat Boone playing music originally done by blacks such as Little Richards. It was unfortunate that white musicians, producers and record execs became gate keepers for the wider introduction of black culture.

While our culture isn't a rigidly racist as the 1950's it still seems like there are gatekeepers. White people are still the majority and still hold much of the wealth. In terms of embracing diversity Asians, Hispanics and black Americans exposure to cultures other than their own often come through white people. For example my first exposure to Reggae music was through white bands like the Police and UB40. Buddhist, Hindu and other cultures have been eating vegan and vegetarian for centuries but those didn't really gain popularity outside of enclaves in the US until it was adopted by white people. The hippie culture brought in (appropriated) many other cultures. Originally they were doing it through things like "health food stores" but with the rise of Whole Foods, Trader Joes and etc.. have brought a lot of that stuff mainstream. I agree that this was appropriation starting with Wavy Gravy eating tofu and granola but it also did white people eating and cooking this stuff for it to go mainstream just like Bill Haley took Rock n Roll mainstream..

Vegans are already an insufferable group of people with their constant virtue signaling. They deserve to be tied up in these racial wars. It just goes to show you that there’s always a bigger woke fish out there waiting to devour you.

I think there is a ln older misnomer that soul foods such as greens are unique to blacks. Soul food is more southern than its black

Hilary Clinton would agree. According to her, you have to add some hot sauce to make it more black friendly.

Terms like soul food and soul music are distinctly black, created by blacks. Another instance, among many, in which you are horribly wrong.

Gumbo on the other hand is an African word for okra and rice. Learned that from a classmate with Nigerian parents

The funny thing about that is EVERYONE of EVERY race loves gumbo and most people dont put okra in it anymore

Right, words are just terms that can describe particular things. Adjectives I think they call them? White people and brown people and Asian people and any other people can eat all the greens and black eyed peas they want but soul food is a term created by black people for the food they traditionally cooked and ate. The reason soul food is associated with the South is that black people lived there in large quantity due to that little slavery thing.

The term soul in this context came about in the sixties during the civil rights movement. You didn’t say **** about music because you don’t know **** about the origin of soul in these contexts.

The notion that because you’re black you know more about history than anyone else is absurd. You’re often misinformed and rambling, just like here.

Bro i know what soul food means more than you just because im black

But the claim that the items that make up soul food and blacks are unique to them is false. FOM SLAVERY ITS FALSE. Its even more false in terms of that time period as thats what ALL PEOPLE could afford to eat

You think white folks in Mississippi just started eating greens. Blacks have no exclusive claim to that food in any time in this country's history. Its a misnomer

And yes soul in music and food means black but soul imusic is black and soul food isn't. Soul food is southern way before anybody thought about soul music. Ill inform you about these subjects bro
