You're right.. it wasn't covered... but how many individual murders are covered nationally on any given day? The horrible nature of this should have created more news but even Fox, which this article says was one of the only mainstream media outlets to cover the story, didn't do it until 4 days later according to the provided link.

If a white man killed a black kid in that situation would it get covered?

I agree police shootings are different from most stories and while they are racially fueled its still about law enforcement

Yes? Why wouldn't it? Isn't it being covered? I've seen hundreds of posts in facebook making this claim that it isn't covered. Very ironic.

It wasn't until Fox made an uproar. Covered as in it would be a national story.

I only can find data for 2016 but I'm sure most other years are similar....

But in 2016 according to the FBI 243 black people were murdered by white people. Do you remember 243 outrage stories that the media concentrated on? There are HUNDREDS of white on black murders that don't get national media attention every year.

I do think it was wrong that MSNBC and CNN were so late to the coverage. Was a terrible story. But the dude got caught immediately and will likely never take a breath of freedom again...and deservedly so. If you want to compare it to the George Floyd coverage...how long did it take for them to even fire the officers, let alone indict them? And they murdered a dude on camera in front of many witnesses.

a single incident should not be extrapolated as anything more than that. it's just tragedy p*rn

but if the races were reversed, holy crap the media would be melting down with cries of what a terrible racist country we are (like they are doing with George Floyd)

I like that “tragedy p*rn” and there’s a lot of truth to that.

As noted this is a horrible case but they perpetrator was caught swiftly and will face justice. This wasn’t an LEO or as in the case of Ahmaud Arbery civilians acting as LEO. As far as we’ve heard this wasn’t race driven like with Dylan Roof.

What we’re seeing though is people making this issue to try to make a statement about the the mainstream media or BLM. If we’re talking about exploiting a tragedy this tragedy is being exploited as a what about case to try to club media bias.

You people sure are making up for the alleged lack of media coverage by making multiple white grievance threads about it on Clutchfans.

Closing in on 200,000 dead due to government policy. vs one criminal killing where the killer is arrests and charged.

There are so many shocking deaths that aren’t covered. We have so many heinous murders in my jurisdiction, you couldn’t possibly cover them all. This is largely whataboutism and tragedy p*rn, as @Commodore noted.

Police brutality against black men is such a deep-suited issue stretching way back to Rodney King and beyond. Notable examples are always going to receive an inordinate amount of coverage

If walking up to a 5 year old and shooting him in the head at point blank range doesn't illicit outrage in you, we are more different than I thought.

Exactly. And what’s there to debate? Why would this story be talked about endlessly? There’s no case to be made that executing a 5 year old might be alright. The entire US agrees this is a death-penalty offense.

George Floyd’s case has far-reaching implications about our social construct. We don’t need any legal reforms about how you can shoot a little boy in the head; there’s nothing to argue.

If this had been a little white girl MSM would be running 24 hour round the clock coverage.
