No way, man. I'm with Charles Barkley on this, if you want to kneel, that's cool, if you don't want to kneel, that's cool, too.

This. It would be the perfect solution for sports leagues. Conservatives don’t have to see players kneeling and the rest of us can enjoy the game without the silly ceremony at the beginning. Just have it for playoffs or finals if you want; never understood why it’s played in a regular season game on a weekday etc.

I will stop watching sports that don't have players kneeling. Athletes with a social conscience are the only way to go.

I think what he did is fine too. If players don't want to kneel or wear a statement jersey that is completely their right and no one should shame them for it. The problem is and has been athletes who do choose to express themselves in a peaceful manner being shamed, ruthlessly attacked or blocked.

The NBA as a league supporting BLM is really nice and really turns the tables on this narrative. We got BLM on the court, we have teams coordinating kneeling during the anthem, individual players can no longer be attacked "LBJ KNEELS DURING ANTHEM" isn't going to be on the news, and I think that fantastic.

I am not a fan of the BLM org but I love sports. They can use their platform for whatever they want. Nothing wrong with a peaceful protest.

Yep, I am done with sports. I only support kneeling for my Lord and Savior.

I am curious as to how kneeling during the anthem personally affects anyone's life. It doesn't prevent anyone from doing anything. It doesn't block traffic. It doesn't require a police presence. It doesn't impose an inconvenience on anyone. While it may offend some, how does it negatively affect one's day to day living?

A number of people seem to be offended on behalf of others. A good friend from high school is offended on behalf of her son who's in the Navy. Meanwhile he is not offended at all.

And I'll ask it again to those who are offended... how often do you stop what you're doing, take off your hat, put your hand over your heart and stand in respect during the anthem when it's played on TV?

I am not one to question anyone's thinking on this. Me, I can easily differentiate between the physical act of kneeling, and kneeling in a prone position in worship of God.

As someone that played football for many years coaches would often say "take a knee" during practice. There usually was no confusion about the implication... while I suspect some coaches may have had a power thing going on, most saw it as a easy way to get players resting and focused on whatever instruction the coach was giving. I never saw it as a religious instruction, nor did it seem to violate any religious beliefs.

Same thing with the concept of kneeling to propose marriage. Sure, I guess that people with strong religious beliefs could apply some thought of "I am pledging matrimony under God", since getting on one knee to propose marriage has become pretty common I suspect most people don't connect religion with their proposal.

So... I have no issue with athletes kneeling as a form or protest. Of course, you might have a more political reason that you couple with your religious objection... and again, that's OK too.

The kneeling, if coverage zooms in, makes the viewers slightly less comfortable on their couches, and it caused one fan to spill some of the bowl of chips that was resting on his beer gut. It's a very big deal.
