My gosh... trump supporters are so so hate-filled that they complain about a much beloved human rights leader's funeral being well attended (mainly because their leader wasn't invited or involved, so he quickly scheduled a conflicting event). Yes, that's how far trump supporters have fallen...

I think you missed the point (edicts restricting funeral attendance applied selectively)

Because it is done locally and by funeral homes - or by business or place of worship, which may limit on their own and/or based on local requirements. 50 for one of the small funeral home in Harris for example. Personally, 50 is too many people for this small funeral home (yes, I know because I'm attending).

Which comparable funeral (national figure, human rights leader) was not allowed?

I guess I still don't understand why trump supporters are complaining that a popular and respected U.S. congressman, a national figure and a leader in civil rights movement should have a large funeral. You complain about "libs" and hypocrisy, but don't show where a comparable figure was denied a similar funeral.

Or, is it possibly because trump wasn't invited? because former presidents including President Obama were invited?

he should have a large funeral

the law should not discriminate in favor of those deemed "national figures"

It's ironic given what the person being honored fought for.

So... you are just coming to the realization that national government figures often receive different treatment than others? That is seriously the argument are making?

No, I really think @Commodore has a good point here. I think a lot of us would be up in arms if there was a Republican politician funeral with a lot of people in a church, indoors, sitting shoulder to shoulder. "Oh won't someone think of the virus!" But we just set all that aside for Lewis. I was personally really hoping they could have at least done something outdoors with a much smaller event indoors, perhaps with the speakers' comments broadcast to remote locations, etc. I don't think it set a good example, especially with many in the Black community being more vulnerable to the virus.

My compatriots on the left do seem willing to set virus recommendations aside for certain causes and then take them up again to shame people the next day.

If a well liked republican senator or other government official died... heck, lets say GHW Bush, or even Barbara Bush died, and there was a large funeral where former President Obama spoke you would think Democrats would complain? Doubtful. The reality... trump supporters are only complaining because (1) trump wasn't invited and (2) Obama and the other presidents were and (3) Obama had a featured role and (4) trumpism was criticized.

I think there are some things Americans won't criticize. A funeral is one. Well, maybe that isn't correct... since trump supporters seem to criticize funerals.

tribalism is so ingrained in some that they see no issue with applying laws selectively based on how virtuous one is deemed by those enforcing the law

Well, knowing several people who have forgone, delayed, and Zoomed funerals, I just sympathize with the pain and frustration of families who wish they could have a funeral even a fraction of the size of rep. Lewis's. That's all. I think the folks involved could have set a better example of "we're in this pandemic together." let's just hope there's no COVID outbreak among the attendees.

I read in some news medias that Obama used this opportunity to also campaigned for Biden in his "eulogy"?

Watch the eulogy. It sounds like you haven't. If you just watched bits and pieces of it, you lose the context.

That's a separate discussion... of course I feel sorry for people who lost a loved one and especially sorry for people whose funerals (weddings, graduation ceremonies, important events) were impacted by COVID-19. Should there be more done to support those situations? Sure. And of course, everyone hopes no one comes down with COVID-19 from attending.

But Congressman Lewis was a special case, someone whose life was associated with civil rights. Does that get "special treatment"? Of course. Does the president and his family get special treatment (eg daily COVID-19 testing with immediate turnaround)? Of course.

And getting back to the post that we are both debating... is the reason its being complained about because a congressman is getting special treatment, or it because *that* congressman, and because of the politics involved?

The difference is the people at this funeral are rich ... they’ve already been tested
