I suppose this is part of him doing away the AFFH rules in HUD. At least Trump doesn't bother with sugar coating it or hiding it in euphemism.

Lol, this definitely holds true in Houston. People can't afford to live in the Heights, Montrose, Washington, EADO, etc areas. Out to the suburbs they go.

How the hell does anybody think this is a good political move?

Its not a dog whistle or a bullhorn it's a 64 thousand watt mega station.

But how does this win him an election it's preaching to the choir.

I would say those stuck paying rent in decaying neighborhoods would love to be homeowners. Gain some equity.

How about “athletic housing” in “sturdy neighborhoods”?

He's trying to find a way to win the white suburban vote, and feels he can play on people's fear of black people moving in.

Covid is not the enemy. It's black people.

Given the fight over school integration and such stuff even in 2020 in liberal cities (see SHSAT in New York), lots of middle/higher income people don’t want to mix with low income people even if they claim to be politically liberal. Being Asian American, I meet a lot of them in my community. But to do this as crassly as Trump does isn’t the best way to exploit people’s racist NIMBY tendencies.

I know what he is trying to do but who in their right mind thinks it will be effective?

The people who will believe this are already voting for him.

I guess someone is telling him he can win on pure turnout of his base.

Doubt it'll work but I'm assuming he thinks it will because that's how he won 2016. But that was before some people knew how he would govern. Most sane people knew that the dude has no business governing but for some, they had to see the failure to understand.

I agree especially about the upper middle class Asian community. There is a certain ignorance by that community on the historical struggle by African Americans in this country. Many in that community especially elder Asian immigrants hold on to some really old stereotypes about Black people.

I understand this is the premise but even in his base this does not play well with everybody it's a racial dog whistle and he is trumpeting it out to the masses.

It just makes no sense no matter what the calculous.
