NFL's problem is that football is such a contact sport. If one lineman has it during a game, there's a decent chance a bunch of people will be infected within a week. And if baseball teams can't properly socially distance, then football teams certainly won't. It's one thing to randomly cancel a baseball game - it's another to have to cancel NFL games. You don't really have an opportunity to make them up or play double-headers or whatnot.
It may not be us, I hope its not us, but some club is apt to have a huge covid breakout with the lack of precaution and respect for the virus. Not only is distancing being ignored, but its a small minority of players that use masks as well.
One plus is that each MLB team is only playing 9 other teams all season. So they will have plenty of opportunities to play double-headers and such if needed. They really should have just made Mondays an offday for the AL/NL east, Tuesdays an offday for the AL/NL Central, etc. Then they could squeeze in any extra games needed pretty easily.
That's true, but maybe they could finish those games in other domes. MLBs issue is they have to realize that if they are going to do this it won't be clean. It's going to be messy and it likely is going to affect the following season. I think we all knew eventually it was going to outbreak since they were just traveling normally. That's true but that's where the week-to-week helps. Teams should be testing players as much as possible going into training camp and thanks to the week-to-week nature of NFL it makes it much harder to pass between teams which is really the problem. It's going to pass within a team thanks to practice, but with it being week to week there really shouldn't be any players unknowingly playing with the virus. So the NFL has to accept the same thing the NBA has and the MLB has to accept, it's not going to be clean. Games will get canceled or in this case delayed. Maybe the Texans won't play the Colts this week, maybe it gets postponed to their bye week and that's going to likely affect the Colts schedule because who they play that week? The NFL just will need a more fluid schedule but it can be done. It sounds like the NFL isn't doing much though right now so they'll probably bumble through it. The NBA and I guess the MLS are the only ones that took it seriously. Yeah, that's a big plus for the MLB. Either way, they are going to have to extend this season a bit if they hope to continue it.
Ned a place like this (it's not built yet.....and seeming like it's less likely to happen thanks to the inept Hutto City Management.....) I wonder if their current HQ is anything like it? (they were to move to TX)
Now that Verlander is likely out for the season (despite backpedalling reports) I really hope they cancel the season.
I think the writing was on the wall before it ever began. But enthusiasm and paychecks won over common sense.
When asked about who will start Wednesday, Baker said it depends on which pitchers get used the next two games. He didn't rule out a bullpen game against the Dodgers.
Yup. He’s got all of the tools to be a top of the rotation guy. Obviously won’t happen over night, but he needs to become more consistent. This is the opponent to build confidence on. Fearless prediction: 5 IP, 1 ER, 8Ks, 3BBs, 3 hits.
