Yeah let's keep blaming everything on the three years of Trump and completely excuse Obama for being the most divisive president I've lived through. Kaepernick started kneeling when Obama was president, Obama ignored him. Trayvon Martin was killed and with all the illegal **** he and Holder were doing, how the **** do you not secure a ****ing conviction? Most say race relations worsened under Obama, poll finds https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2016/10/05/politics/obama-race-relations-poll/index.html Obama’s Legacy Is a Weaker and More Divided America https://www.heritage.org/political-process/commentary/obamas-legacy-weaker-and-more-divided-america
Just for reference. A typical Marine infantry battalion has 900-1200 men when you account for all the line companies and headquarters company. In two months in Marjah, my battalion lost 17 men. That's out of 1000, not 100,000. If we extrapolated that to 100,000 it would be 1700. The peak murder rate per 100,000 Chicago residents was 35. Chicago has a population of 6 million people. That is 3 times the population of the entire Armed forces and guess what, no where near the entire population of servicembers are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. A very small percentage are deployed at a given time. Basically you removed the denominator and just compared totals like an idiot.
No I don't think that federal police presence will curb this behavior at all. In fact there was an police car in that video. Police were at the funeral and that area has a high police presence. So no, federal officers are not going to curb any behavior. Also, masses of people are not dying in Chicago every week. Chicago isn't even in the top 30 US cities for murder rate. The city has been the same for 100 years. 75% of the city is extremely safe with 10% extremely dangerous and 15% somewhat dangerous. Also the Feds are not going to stop the illegal flow of guns into the city. They come from multiple states and typically are from burglaries etc. The inner city in these neighborhoods already are overflowing with illegal AK-47's, hand guns, etc. I was a FP, I am very familiar with the unique problem in Chicago and the inner cities. I lived in the area, still am involved in the area, put many of the people in prison and know others that are involved or live in the area. If you want to solve the problem, stop arresting black men for mar1juana possession and other minor offenses in those neighborhoods and bring in jobs, not more police....... as it is, so many black men in that area are already in jail that the gangs are being led by 15-22 year old young men.... there are multiple generations of black men from those neighborhoods that are in jail, cannot get a job because of a criminal record or are dead.
Once you get that felony label, good luck finding honest taxable work that isn't minimum wage. Hence why so many of these young men resort to untaxable income (illegal drug trade).
It is a very complicated issue, and my opinions on it have changed a lot over the years. When I worked as a DA, I strongly believed in removing the bad apples. We would go into the inner city areas of Chicago and target drug dealers, gang members and would hit them hard on any infraction with the idea of limiting violence and drug trafficking by putting those that were violent or could be violent in prison for a long time. We also targeted the head of the vice lords, BD, GB, LK and other gangs through RICO or a number of other laws. It took us a few years, but we were largely effective. The police presence was increased. The top leaders of the gangs were in prison. We were arresting people we were convinced where mid level dealers and many of them were very violent. The problem came down the line...... because I started noticing that the leaders of the gangs and the drug dealers were getting younger and younger. Also there no longer were 4-5 gangs that controlled the majority of the city, there were 50-60 gangs and each block suddenly was controlled by a different gang and the members were little kids, with guns. None of these kids had fathers because they were in prison. They all had relatives in prison and the schools were even less safe because suddenly there were dozens of gangs in each middle and high school. Now 16-17 year old's would only need to venture a few blocks from their home and then there would be violence. That is why I left working for the government and that is why I largely regret what part I played in what happened in Chicago........ Donald Trump is just another old white man that is incredibly ignorant to the problem, that thinks a show of force will change the problem. It won't....... tearing down the neighborhoods wont change it either..... neither will making the neighborhoods look better (some of the worst areas in Chicago don't look bad)...... what will change it is getting jobs, having more family available and better schools...... these kids do not see "gangs" like most people do. To them, they are just the group of kids they grew up with, and now that they are older, they need money and to "protect their neighborhoods".
I agree. Something needed to be done and in the areas of violence, they seem to be welcoming the federal intervention. I guess now we wait and see
You really didn't agree with anything he said if you believe federal intervention is the solution. He EXPLICTLY stated that this only escalates tensions. So you are diametrically disagreeing with him on pretty much every point he made.
And now.... the rest of the story https://www.factcheck.org/2020/07/trump-misleads-on-h1n1-swine-flu-testing/
They won because they attracted enough non fanatics. The issue he is going to run into isn't a loss of fanatics, they are as rabid and behind Trump as before....... the issue is that moderates that voted for him, may not vote for him again.....
Obama didn't ignore the police brutality and actually instituted an internship program. Calling him the most divisive is laughable. Cities are burning Federal troops are breaking the law, and police reputation is at an all time low. The nation can't get its act together enough to put down the pandemic here while other nations are putting us to shame with their ability to actually follow the science. This is what is happening on our nation now under Trump. None of that happened under Obama.
