Let me be the first to denounce Kanye West for his cultural appropriation of alt-right racism. This will not stand!

You make the bed but now you don’t want to sleep in it. That pretty much sums up how a lot of the illiberals here are reacting.

I haven't read through this whole thread and frankly don't have the time or inclination to do so. Just wanted to add this though. On February 13th at the Rockets at Twolves game the Twolves dancers wore Qipao and I have yet to hear that becoming a national issue, you can hear my friend joking about it in the video.

As a Chinese American I have no problem with this woman wearing a Qipao or the Twolves dancers.

We should stick to fretting over appropriation that actually does true harm... like Taco Bell.

I don't make beds. I appropriated a senorita to do that for me.

Everywhere all over the world knows that Christmas comes from a Christian holiday which comes from a Pagan holiday. Even in villages. That's the cultural power of the West.

It's like Cinco de Mayo here. Most people celebrate it without a single Mexican being involved unless it's the Mariachi band. But everyone knows it comes from Mexico at least. Happy Cinco they Mayo by the way. I had a burrito and a margarita ;)

    Hmmm...Cohete...you:

    show up whenever you want
assume you are unique and brilliant
hang around as things get hotter
stick around for a while until people are beyond sick of you
    inevitably waste away
reform later in a slightly differently

That's pretty damn snowflakey if you ask me.

I think what gets lost here is that taking something from another culture isn't a bad thing. It's taking something from a culture that's looked down upon and then whitewashing the connection to that culture to make it palpable.

Take for instance bathing daily. Europeans didn't bathe daily, instead they used perfume to cover-up BO. When they went to India, the British observed Indians bathing daily, so they started the practice as well (thank goodness). Despite this, many British were saying Indians are filthy and dirty.

It's great to see your culture recognized - as in the video @rocketjudoka posted. And while there are some very oversensitive snowflakes, there is something that can be learned here too. It's not so much about being sensitive to others but just educating oneself about the world honestly.

Why do you think that's an example of cultural appropriation?
