Because Kenny Smith is a Rockets legend is why his time as a commentator is so very frustrating. Kenny is only a Rockets fan when convenient; Only brings up his championships as a measuring stick against Shaq and Chuck; will rep New York hard as hell and won't defend anything about Houston and Dream against the clowns at TNT. No one even remembers he's from NY for goodness sake.

Kenny owes (almost)everything to the H and he doesn't cape for the city enough.

I just listened to his Pardon My Take (sp?) podcast and he didn't mention Houston at all.

We definitely have a chance, but not a lock. So many things can happen with this bubble thing. Can't be taking any of the WCF teams for granted.

I look that these predictions as who the analyst may throw their support at. Especially when it's not the regular names you keep hearing. Outside of the LA teams and the Bucks, HOU, and BOS and maybe TOR named as dark horses.

About two weeks ago he was saying the Rockets have no chance because we have no size. I could care less that he flip flopped. Worst member of our chips. Zero loyalty.

Kenny did what he had to in order to become a successful commentator on TNT - if he repped Houston he wouldn't be in the job. So Kenny disses Houston so he comes across as impartial, he probably took it to an extreme.

Thank you for understanding what a national job is

The hypocrites here complain how mark Jackson keeps cheering on the warriors. National audiences don’t want that

    And this truth might hurt
    Kenny before this prediction

has never been wrong about the Rockets not winning a championship

In fact, during the Tmac era , we never advanced past the first round

And having confidence in a Harden team shows that he respects that harden is a mvp

I don't have any issue with the Jet. I think his analysis is overrated to be honest, but I think he is a good commentator. I just think it's very hard to predict sports in general. There's the conventional wisdom but basketball really comes down to a handful of buckets over the course of a few hours - the teams are very evenly matched overall in the NBA especially this season.

I like you don't get why people get so upset about what commentators say. They are just comments. Ultimately, we all will know what will happen and how good Harden is and how good the Rockets will have been. We'll know how many rings Harden wins after 5 years - the commenters don't change that. For me, I revel is when they say negative things about Houston because it will be fun to see how they react if they are proven wrong.

    Unlike the 90s
Where we never cared about Bob Costas

The newb fans really care more about what sports hot take shows and half time shows say about the Rockets
It’s not that they want analysis
They just want them to praise them like they praise the lakers or warriors

they forget what really matters is on the court

not their feelings hurt when someone is reading a script off the teleprompter

are people willing to put money on what these tv analysts say in a sports bet?
    No
    So why so sensitive?

Kenny Smith dumps all over the team that he owes everything to just to become successful? Yuck.. Yuck, man. Kenny Smith would have been in the same situation if he showed respect. I don't believe he has to disparage the Rockets and the city of Houston to achieve his goals.

One thing I never liked about Houston fandom is how homer they are. You look at the announcers for the Rockets game, and they are the biggest homers in the league - it's a joke. Other fans laugh at it.

I never understood why Houston fans expect Houstonians to always be pro-Houston

Houston fans aren't homers. stop it. For example. Nneka Ogwumike is on TV everyday repping Houston. She doesn't necessarily like the current Rockets, but she is a fan of the city of Houston. It's not being a homer if you point out what you like about the city of Houston.

Kenny is not from Houston, but he can at least show respect for the team that made him who he is. You aren't a homer if you point out the good the Rockets did as champions.

KG, Ray Allen, Rondo, Perkins, Paul Pierce are allowed to shamelessly stan Boston after their championship and no one calls them homers. come on, man.

Not to go too off topic, on the game announcers, Bill and Bull strikes a good balance. I put them between someone like an Ian Eigle (when he used to call the Nets games) to a Tommy Heinsohn of the Celtics. Ian, polished, neutral, was someone you kind of knew was going places. Heinsohn, what can I say, he doesn't even pretend not to be a homer.
